Little Thug #2

Here we go again. The international community needs to deal with the Iranian little thug, I dub him little thug #2, with Jong-il being little thug #1, sanctions are being proposed and once again
Russia and China are going to be the weak links.

The problem with the UN, in a nutshell, is that it is almost impossible to fully punish a country like Iran until AFTER they have a nuclear test, then the left media and the Democratic party want to lay the blame at the present administrations feet. The reason it is near impossible to impose these punishments is because countries like Russia and China are too weak spined to vote in favor of even the most minimal sanctions. With allies like them, we do not NEED enemies.

In a bow to Russia, the draft resolution exempts IAEA technical cooperation on operational safety and legal advice at Iran's Bushehr nuclear facility being built by the Russians.

The facility would be Iran's first atomic power plant and the Tehran government recently allocated about $245 million to finish it. The facility is now projected to go on line in late 2007, nearly a year later than originally envisaged.

It was unclear how any eventual sanctions might impact Russia's planned sale of 29 Tor-M1 air defense missile systems to Iran. Analysts in Russia have said Moscow might scuttle the deal as part of a give-and-take with Washington over sanctions.

One of the diplomats who spoke with AP said Washington had wanted to include Bushehr and ban all IAEA technical cooperation but reluctantly agreed with Britain and France that Russia would not go along.

Via AP.

In the meantime, Iran just continues to expand their enrichment program.

Damned if we do and damned if we don't... how on earth can we accomplish a damn thing with the UN. They are useless, incompetent and incapable of dealing with the issues that face us today.

Somehow this will manage to become "our" fault when Iran decides to start a nuclear war with Israel.

Unreal.
