Earthquake Hits Los Angeles- Update: 5.8 in Magnitude

Breaking on the news right now it is being announced that Los Angeles has just suffered an earthquake. No aftershocks reported yet, but the news is reporting they are expected. I will link to the stories as they come out but the quakes is reported to have been a major seismic event.

11:48 Pacific time a 5.8 earthquake hit California. It was was felt from Los Angeles to San Diego with slight tremors felt all the way to Las Vegas.

[Update #1] U.S. Geological Survey estimates the quake was a magnitude 5.8, centered 29 miles east-southeast of downtown Los Angeles near Chino Hills in San Bernardino County.

[Update #2] CNN is reporting that the epicenter was 2 miles southwest of Chino Hills and approximately 5 miles southeast of Diamond Bar. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.8 earthquake is considered moderate.

Initial reports show no major damage.

The fire chief is speaking on the news and reporting no injuries or damages as of yet.

Authorities are asking that people avoid using their cell phones unless absolutely necessary.

Aftershocks are being reported by Fox News, over the last 20 minutes, multiple smaller shocks have been felt, I will link when I get information on the exact location.

[Update #5] Fox News is showing live video and they report that according to Los Angeles County sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore, the whole building where he was shook as he describes it as "dramatic".

Also some damage to homes is starting to come in.

[Update #7] Rocking is still being felt in Chino Hills and the magnitude has been downgraded to a 5.4 on the Richter scale according to certain news agencies. Over 20 aftershocks have hit already.

One witness, approximately 20 miles away is calling in to Fox News and describes the feeling as "a garbage truck running into his building"

[Update #8] Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has activated emergency services.
