Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama Meet: The Irony

[Update] The location of the "secret" meeting isn't a secret, it was in Dianne Feinstein's living room.

Reports are out saying Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton have had a little meeting, details are sketchy but it seems she will ask him to help her pay off her campaign debt and word is that she is distancing herself from the claim that she is positioning for the spot of Vice President.

A day after her campaign said she would end her quest for the presidential nomination, Mrs. Clinton disavowed an effort by her supporters to pressure Mr. Obama into choosing her as his running mate. She said that they were acting on their own and that the decision was “Senator Obama’s and his alone.”

There could be multiple reasons for her putting distance between the active afforts to get herself put on the ticket. One that if she publicly acknowledges more than she already has, which was to be "open to the idea", and then he doesn't choose her, it will be just another humiliation. Another reason, more nefarious is in her own words there, the "decision" is Obama's alone".

So if his decision is not to ask Clinton to be VP, then he, alone, is to blame, which many of her die hard supporters would use as another reason to find him unacceptable.

According to Charles Schumer,
"She has said if Senator Obama should want her to be vice president and thinks it would be best for the ticket, she will serve, she will accept that. But on the other hand, if he chooses someone else she will work just as hard for the party in November."

Funny, for a meeting that reports claim the content of was sketchy, quite a bit is already known...lol

First the debt issue. Hillary can use her funds to pay her vendors but she cannot use them to pay herself for the loans she made her own campaign. Obama cannot just reach into his funds either, but he can encourage his donors to donate to her to help her wipe her debt out and he can also arrange to have fundrasiers to do so as well.

The irony here is that most of the debt accrued was not only to help her win the nomination, but to pay for direct attacks against Barack Obama, like the infamous "3 AM" and making sure everyone heard how she said he didn't have the experience to run the country.

The ad said, "It's 3:00am and your children are asleep. There's a phone in the White House, and it's ringing. Something is happening in the world. Your vote will decide who answers that call.

Whether someone knows the world's leaders, knows the military, someone tested and ready to lead. It's 3am and your children are safe and asleep. Who do you want answering the phone?" the ad concludes.

Reminder via video:

Many will remember how spectacularly that backfired against both the Democratic candidates, when polls showed Americans preferred John McCain to answer that hypothetical 3 am call.

The commercial was credited as one factor enabling Clinton to turn her campaign around in Texas last week. But, 42% of all voters said the person they’d most want to answer the phone was John McCain. Among all voters, 25% picked Clinton and another 25% named Obama as the person they’d want in the White House when a foreign policy crisis call arrived.

Almost immediately, ripples across the Internet started and media, blogs and forums started saying, " Hillary Cuts an Ad ... for McCain".

More irony is the issue of Clinton as Obama's VP.

Imagine it, she runs on the same ticket with him at the same time as the Internet continues to spread the video of her saying, "In this election we need a nominee who can pass the commander-in-chief test. Someone ready on day one to defend our country and keep our families safe. And we need a president who passes that test, because the first and most solemn duty of the president of the United States is on protect and defend our nation. And when there is a crisis and when the phone rings whether it's 3:00 p.m. or 3:00 a.m. In the White House, there is no time for speeches and on the job training. Senator McCain will bring a time of experience to the campaign. I will bring a lifetime of experience and Senator Obama will bring a speech he gave in 2002. I think that is a significant difference. I think that since we now know Senator McCain will be the nominee for the party, national security will be front and center in this election. We all know that. And I think it's imperative that each of us be able to demonstrate we can cross the commander in chief threshold. And I believe that I have done that. Certainly Senator McCain has done that. And you will have to ask Senator Obama with respect to his candidacy."

Video reminder of her words.

The Republican National Committee is already using the video has a research page with that as well as other quotes from other prominent Democratic politicians calling Obama "dangerous", "confused", "inexperienced" and a whole slew of other things.

Yes, by all means Obama, pick Hillary as your VP, so that the world can be continuously reminded, via video, what she she thinks of you and has you picking up the tab for it.

That is called IRONY.
