Gathering of Eagles update...12JUN07

H.Res 111 to bring Our POW/MIAs Home
June 11th, 2007
”Assist us to press the House to pass H.Res 111

I have worn the POW/MIA bracelet of Sgt. Curtis R. Smoot 1st Squadron 9th Cavalry Regiment., 1 st Cavalry Division since 1985. I visit him at Panel 4W, Line 36 every time I am in DC. On every visit I spend a moment with my hand on his name to let him know I have not forgotten him. Last Veteran’s Day I met a man who was on the chopper next to Curtis on the day his went down. I could feel the pain in his voice as he told me the story of how they searched for Curtis. Even as I write these words I can feel the sadness that always washes over me when I visit Curtis. Like all of you out there I want to bring him, and all the others, home.

Currently H. Res. 111 is stalled due to a lack of sponsorship by the esteemed members of the House of Representatives. The goal of the resolution is to establish a select committee on POW/MIA affairs. This task was initially undertaken by Congressman Peter King of New York and is currently co-sponsored by 47 members of the House. It is a bipartisan effort that even Charlie Rangel has sponsored. Unfortunately we still need 53 more members of Congress to sponsor it. Obviously Gathering of Eagles believes that a full accounting of our POW/MIAs is long overdue. We have decided to partner with various POW/MIA family organizations to get the committee constituted. We have identified members of Congress who are likely to sign on with a gentle push from you, our brothers and sisters, in the movement that is GOE. We are asking that people call, write or visit the Congressmen listed below and urge them to sponsor and support H. Res. 111. We especially need those of you who are constituents of these men to take the time to contact them. If you do live in one of these Congressional Districts ask your friends and neighbors to do likewise. Every one of us knows people who say they want to help, but don’t want to be involved. Here’s their chance, and yours. We will identify a handful of Congressmen every few days until we get enough to move this resolution forward.
I urge you to contact the men below. Even if you do not believe the many credible reports of POW sightings over the years, the men on these POW/MIA lists have remains that must be recovered. They all have family members who long for the day when they can visit the grave of a father, son, uncle, nephew, or just a friend who has been away from home too long All our POW/MIAs have served long enough. Please help me to bring them home.

Sincerely,

Chris Hill

GOE Wants YOU to Support the Eagles!
June 9th, 2007
Attention all Eagles,

The Gathering of Eagles Fundraising Committee is asking all Eagles to contribute to The Gathering of Eagles’ Nest. The Eagle’s Nest is a nationwide fundraising event, created by Gathering of Eagles, to raise a minimum of $175,000.00 before the end of September. September marks the deadline of Congress’ decision to extend or cut off funding to our troops. It is imperative that we raise these funds before Congress is capable of cutting off funding to our troops. We are convinced that anything short of total victory spells dire consequences for the country. We will not sit idly by as that happens.

Fellow Eagles, NOW is the time to stand!

“If not now, when?”

Please take a moment to fill out the Donation Slip or donate via our website. We are counting on YOU.

Desperately Seeking Eagles at Ft. Monmouth, NJ
June 8th, 2007
Fort Monmouth, New Jersey is desperately seeking Eagles to counter anti-war protestors!

Every Saturday at Noon you will see a gathering of
“support the troops” Eagles across the street from anti-war protestors. The anti-war protestors regularly outnumber the Eagles 12 to 2!

The anti-war protestors display their usual hatred-filled “Bush lies” signs and commonly take to shouting at vehicles entering Fort Monmouth.

However, this Memorial Day weekend they went too far. The anti-war protestors lined their side with pictures of fallen New Jersey servicemen. They have also taken to lining their side with crosses that had fallen servicemen’s names displayed on them.

We desperately need Eagles to counter their horrific displays with positive “troop support”

We gather and park on the Exxon gas station side of the street across from the gate of Ft. Monmouth. Please meet at 11:30 a.m. on Saturdays; this is an ongoing event. The anti-war protestors are there every Saturday like clockwork. Our Eagles need to be there, as well.

All further logistical information and questions can be forwarded on to Elyse A. Buongiorno, GOE New Jersey Coordinator. You can reach her via email at the following email addresses:
