While Our Soldiers Wait...

[Major Update] In a speech I just watched, Bush vetoed the surrender bill and according to CNN the new bill is already in the works as we all knew it would be and have posted about previously.

As the search engine shows, everyone is announcing it.

USA Today, The Hill, ABC.

Yeah VETO POWER!!!!!!!

In only the second veto of his presidency, Bush rejected legislation that would require the first U.S. combat troops to be withdrawn from Iraq by Oct. 1 with a goal of a complete pullout six months later.

He vetoed the bill immediately upon his return to the White House from a visit to MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Fla., the headquarters of U.S. Central Command, which oversees military operations in the Middle East, including Iraq.

[Update below on VETO]

While our troops wait for the funding they need to carry out their fight against terrorism, the Democrats planned a special day for signing and sending the war funding bill to the President.

WASHINGTON, April 30 — Democratic leaders in Congress are planning a special ceremony on Tuesday afternoon to send President Bush a bill that sets timetables for troop withdrawal from Iraq.

The timing is no accident. It comes on the fourth anniversary of the day Mr. Bush stood on an aircraft carrier under the banner “Mission Accomplished” and declared that major combat operations in Iraq had ended.

The Democrats’ ceremony, featuring the House speaker, Nancy Pelosi, and the Senate majority leader, Harry Reid, is part of the elaborate political theater at both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue surrounding the Iraq spending bill, which is destined to produce only the second veto of Mr. Bush’s presidency.

Now, this isn't new news, we were told last week that the Democrats were deliberately postponing sending the bill to the President's desk for a veto so that they could make a political statement with the timing of the bill.

While our soldiers wait, the Dems plan their political theater.....isn't that special?

But don't question their patriotism!!!!

From The Corner:

The Speaker Hasn't Had Time for the Surrender bill?

President's Veto Dependent on House Speaker's Signature

By Susan Ferrechio CQ Daily

The much-anticipated presidential veto of the Iraq supplemental spending bill was to have taken place already, but a signature - or lack thereof - has been standing in the way.

And it's not President Bush's signature - it's House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's.

The conference report on the bill (HR 1591 - H Rept 110-107) was adopted by the House and cleared by the Senate last week, but Pelosi, D-Calif., wanted time to personally read it and sign it before sending it to Pennsylvania Avenue.

"It's a major piece of legislation and you have to go through it word for word and line by line," Pelosi spokesman Nadeam Elshami said Monday. "She believes this is very important legislation, which she will sign and the president will receive Tuesday."

The White House had wanted to get the bill and send it back, complete with the president's veto message, before the weekend.

But the House was out April 27, and Monday's session was canceled so members could attend the funeral of Juanita Millender-McDonald, D-Calif. Pelosi delivered a eulogy at the service in Los Angeles.

Boehner's comments:

NOTE for Leno, Letterman, Conan, and other interested parties: Now we've heard everything. The Speaker recommended the conference report on the war funding bill last week, voted for it last week, and could have sent it to the President as early as last Thursday when the Senate passed it (the House was in session). But NOW she wants to read it?? Wow.

Yup, while our soldiers wait.....

In another article it seems that the Democrats are conceding that the bill will go through, after the veto of course, with a bill that does not include timelines, after acting out their little political show on this bill of course.

Democratic leaders in Congress are slowly backing down from a standoff with the White House over tying war funding to a troop-withdrawal timetable, saying they can use other bills to confront President Bush on Iraq.

[...]

Still, Mr. Reid took to the Senate floor yesterday and implored Mr. Bush to sign the bill that is scheduled to reach the White House today, citing unyielding bloodshed in Iraq.

"There is still time to come to grips with the facts on the streets of Baghdad and throughout Iraq," Mr. Reid said. "There is still time to sign this bill and change course in Iraq."

This from a man who gets his "facts" from the media because he doesn't like the facts actually coming from the men and women with their boots on the ground, nor the commander, General Petraeus in which Baghdad Reid declared last week he would not believe.

BASH: You talked several times about General Petraeus. You know that he is here in town. He was at the White House today, sitting with the president in the Oval Office and the president said that he wants to make it clear that Washington should not be telling him, General Petraeus, a commander on the ground in Iraq, what to do, particularly, the president was talking about Democrats in Congress.

He also said that General Petraeus is going to come to the Hill and make it clear to you that there is progress going on in Iraq, that the so-called surge is working. Will you believe him when he says that?

REID: No, I don't believe him, because it's not happening. All you have to do is look at the facts.

So, if our commanders say what Reid wants them to say, they are trustworthy and if they do not, then they cannot be believed...this from a man, if you can call him that, that hasn't a clue to actual conditions on the ground in Iraq vs a carrer General that is in charge of the new counterinsugency strategy.

While our soldiers wait.... our politicians are planning special ceremonies for their surrender bill, KNOWING that it will be vetoed, but their little show is far more important than getting our troops the funds they need.

Are we questioning their patriotism yet folks?

DAMN STRAIGHT I AM.

[UPDATE] Via Victory Caucus, it looks like the President isn't going make our soldiers wait any longer than needed for HIS VETO!!!!!!!

This just in from a blogger conference call with Tony Snow: President Bush will announce his veto of the defeatist emergency supplemental at 6:10 pm Eastern this evening. The actual veto will be transmitted tomorrow.

More as it comes in...

NZ

WOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

At least "someone" is showing some class, and it isn't the Democrats!!!!!

[Update #2] Hot Air has more and Video.

[Update #3] It seems that reports, unconfirmed as of yet, of al-Masri's possible death (The leader of al-qaeda in Iraq) seems to be upsetting the Democrats little ceremony they planned for the war spending, soon to be vetoed bill's delivery to the White House.... how DARE the media report more on the potential good news in Iraq rather than the surrender bill and Baghdad Reid and Pelosi political theater and dog and pony show!!!!!

HOW DARE THEM???!!!!????

Jeeeeez, doesn't the media understand that the Dems have a Theatrical Political SHOW to put on today?

Where the HELL is the medias priorities?

Poor Poor Dems.
