Hump Day Mixed Bag of Treats

A little something for everyone.

Hotline reports that Boehner calls the new immigration bill a piece of shit. Guess he doesn't mince words huh?

House Minority Leader John Boehner, speaking to a private gathering of Republican activists last night, called the Senate's immigration compromise bill a "piece of shit" but said that he had promised President Bush earlier in the day that he would let his teeth be a barrier to such thoughts in public.

Boehner spoke last night at a small reception for the Republican Rapid Responders on Capitol Hill.

"I promised the President today that I wouldn't say anything bad about ... this piece of shit bill," he said, according to two attendees.

Polls show that the American people are not happy with the new immigration reform plan that the politicians have peiced together and I wish to use this poll to make a point.

This poll shows that the American people, the majority of them, agree with what we have been saying about this new immigration travesty, but it doesn't matter.

The American people have "say" in elections, they elect their representatives and our Presidents, but not being a democracy and instead being a republic, that is where the will of American people, ends. Stops. Ceases.

The only influence the American people have, is to say "we will not elect you in your next election if you do not do what we want", but the way we are set up as a country, our elected officials can choose to completely ignore us until the next election where they are begging us to trust them again.

So, when it comes to creating laws and passing laws, we can email/fax/call all we want, and we should so that our elected officials understand that when they come begging for the next election, we will not trust them again if they do not take our needs into consideration, but we need to face the reality that they do NOT have to listen to us.

It is what it is, even when the voice of the American people matches my own, I am capable of admitting that "our"power is limited.

As a side note, in a link I followed from the last poll, I find that 72% of Americans surveyed also believe, as I do, that Congress is more interested in their own careers than in helping the "people.

Big surprise huh?

NEXT!!!!

Via Reuters, AP and CNN we see that some previously classified information has been declassified and it shows that Bin Laden, back in 2005, his stated intention was to use Iraq as a base to launch attacks against the US.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- President Bush on Tuesday declassified intelligence showing in 2005 Osama bin Laden planned to use Iraq as a base from which to launch attacks in the United States, according to White House spokesman Gordon Johndroe.

Johndroe said the intelligence was declassified so the president could discuss the previously secret material on Wednesday during a commencement address at the Coast Guard Academy in Connecticut.

The speech will be aimed at defending a key part of the president's war strategy -- the contention that the United States cannot withdraw from Iraq because al Qaeda would fill the vacuum in the Middle East.

"This shows why we believe al Qaeda wants to use Iraq as a safe haven," said Johndroe. He added the president will talk about al Qaeda's "strong interest in using Iraq as a safe haven to plot and plan attacks on the United States and other countries."

WOW, you mean all those times the President said that was al-Qaeda's plan for Iraq, he was telling the truth???? OH NOOOOOOOOO, Don't tell the Democrats, cause they will stick their fingers in their ears screaming la la la la la la and wave the information away.

Again, no big surprise there, despite the Democrats completely awesome ability to bury their heads in the sand and completely ignore the intelligence we have, which may not be perfect, but it is better than nothing.

Despite the rhetoric to the contrary it seems that the latest recruiting numbers for the military are not new but actually have been a trend this whole year. (Hat Tip Say Anything)

Direct quote from Say Anything Blog:

So what does this mean? It means that recruiting is strong for the branches of our military that see the most action in Iraq (Army and Marine active duty), and gets only slightly weaker for those branches where a troop is less likely to see action (Army NG and then on down through the Navy/Air Force reserves). Which means that of the people choosing to sign up for the military, most of them are signing up with an inclination toward going to Iraq.

Sort of throws a monkey wrench in that whole “Bush’s unpopular war” line when the military has such little trouble finding citizens willing to risk their lives for it, doesn’t it?

Well said!!!!

Please remember to give what you can to the Memorial Fund that has been set up for the town of Beeville Texas to rebuild their veterans memorial which was destroyed.

Secondly, we need some help for Hillary!!!! The comments section of the post asking everyone to help Hillary pick her "song" is where we are leaving our suggestions, so join the fun, think of a song that is appropriate for Hillary Clinton and tell us what your suggestion is.
