On May 4, 2026, the White House published the statement Presidential Message on National Small Business Week explaining how small businesses have been the strength of our country since before America was officially founded 250 years ago. Small Business Week honors entrepreneurs, innovators, and dreamers. Those with the spirit of the pioneers of old, invigorating our culture, economy, and communities. President Trump writes:

On May 4, 2026, the White House published the Proclamation Jewish American Heritage Month, 2026 honoring the contributions of Jewish Americans. Jew Haym Salomon was an early supporter of the Revolutionary War, rallying support for freedom. He was imprisoned by the British Crown, but continued his support after his release from prison. He ultimately gave everything to the Revolutionary War cause. Our first President, George Washington, in a 1790 letter to the Hebrew Congregation in Newport, Rhode Island wrote:

May the Children of the Stock of Abraham, who dwell in this land, continue to merit and enjoy the good will of the other Inhabitants; while everyone shall sit in safety under his own vine and fig tree, and there shall be none to make him afraid. . . . United States gives to bigotry no sanction, to persecution no assistance.

Our nation was founded on the sacred right of religious freedom. Throughout this historic year of our 250th anniversary of American Independence, President Trump invites everyone to participate in a National Sabbath from sundown May 15 to nightfall on May 16, encouraging everyone to come together in gratitude for our great Nation as well as a time for rest, reflection, and gratitude to God. President Trump writes:

This month, we celebrate the contributions that Jewish Americans have made to our way of life, we honor their role in shaping the story of our Nation, and we remember that religious devotion, learning, and service to others are enduring pillars of a thriving culture.  Through every trial and triumph, the contributions of Jewish Americans have shaped our past, have strengthened our communities, and will continue to inspire American greatness for generations to come.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim May 2026 as Jewish American Heritage Month.  I call upon Americans to celebrate the heritage and contributions of Jewish Americans and to observe this month with appropriate programs, activities, and ceremonies.  I further call on all Americans to celebrate their faith and freedom throughout this year, during this month, and especially on Shabbat to celebrate our 250th year.

On May 3, 2026, the White House published the statement Presidential Message on National Hurricane Preparedness Week reminding those who live in coastal areas subject to hurricanes to take proactive steps to protect themselves, their families, their homes, and their neighborhoods before disaster strikes. The National Weather Service (NWS) provides checklists and other resources for hurricane safety. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) provides an entire section on Hurricane Preparedness and Response with downloadable guides. Ready.gov also has guides for what to do before, during, and after a hurricane. FEMA has guides for before, during, and after disaster strikes. Disaster Assistance provides resources for what to do after the disaster strikes. Be sure to use these resources to create an emergency plan for your family, assemble essential supplies, and invest in property protections. The Trump Administration is transforming FEMA to make it into a better partner for the people, cut timelines for funding, deployment of responders, and work to more quickly remove debris left behind by natural disasters. President Trump Writes:

This week, we extend our thoughts and prayers to every family across our country that has been touched by deadly hurricanes—and we express our deepest gratitude to the countless first responders who risk their safety to save lives, help others in need, and recover rapidly while taking measures to prevent or mitigate damage from future storms.

On May 2, 2026, the White House published the statement Presidential Message on Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month celebrates the resilience, devotion, and patriotism of Americans with Asian or Pacific Islander heritage. Today AAPI descendants defend our freedoms as they join the US Armed Forces (currently 77,000 AAPI descendants are serving), open small businesses, become doctors, innovate new technology, and strengthen every aspect of American lives. President Trump writes:

The values that my Administration is fighting for are the same values the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities live by every day—family, hard work, education, and the promise of freedom.  Since I returned to office, my Administration has advanced those values by lowering the cost of living and delivering historic tax relief for working families and small business owners through the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.  We are stopping violent crime and making our neighborhoods safe again for our children.  We are restoring excellence in education by empowering parents and advancing merit.  And we are forging powerful trade deals with our Asian and Pacific partners, which are expanding our access to key markets, strengthening supply chains, and securing better opportunities for American workers of every background. 

This month, as we honor the enduring contributions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, we pledge to work toward a radiant American future that is guided by faith, driven by hope, motivated by hard work, and uplifted by an unwavering belief in the greatness of our Nation.

On May 2, 2026, the White House published the Presidential Message on the Kentucky Derby reminding us the Kentucky Derby:

stands as an enduring testament to tradition, culture, and the triumph of the American spirit.  Just as the Thoroughbreds race down the track with determination and resolve, so too has our Nation risen to meet every challenge, defied the odds, and shattered boundaries to reach greatness. 

 President Trump writes:

It appears the Democrats' partial government shutdown has been resolved through the reconciliation bill (which do not require a Presidential signature to be enacted but does not have the authority of law) passed by the house. HR7147 - Further Additional Continuing Appropriations Act, 2026 is summarized as follows:

This bill provides continuing FY2026 appropriations to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) through May 22, 2026. It is known as a continuing resolution (CR) and ends the partial DHS shutdown that began on February 14, 2026, due to a lapse in appropriations for DHS.

The CR generally funds most DHS agencies and programs at the FY2025 levels through the earlier of May 22, 2026, or the enactment of the FY2026 DHS appropriations act.

The bill also authorizes back pay, in accordance with current law, for federal employees who were affected by the partial DHS shutdown.

Finally, the bill ratifies and approves certain obligations that were incurred during the partial DHS shutdown, including obligations incurred to maintain the essential level of activity to protect life and property and bring about an orderly termination of government functions.

While this bill is being touted as funding DHS through at least September 30, 2026 when the 2026 FY budget ends. Then, on October 1, 2026, if a budget for FY2027 is not passed, we will probably go through this nonsense yet again.

Why did it take 76 days for Republican members of Congress to figure out they could fund DHS using the reconciliation process? Why did they force DHS employees to work without pay in order to protect our National Security? Oh, yeah, it's about criminal illegal aliens who entered our country illegally and Democrat's hatred of President Trump. There MUST be accountability for those Congress members who refused to DO THEIR JOB and fully fund the government.

So, even though DHS is funded for a few more months Congress is still playing games by holding "Pro Forma" sessions so they can have 4-day weekends instead of working to pass the SAVE America Act and other legislation that We The People want passed. 

What is a Pro Forma session, you might ask. A Pro Forma session is when the House or the Senate meet without conducting legislative business and no votes are held. They do this because the Article I Section 5 of the US Constitution (discussed in my October 2, 2025 ANP Article) prohibits Congress adjourning for more than 3 days without the consent of the other chamber. So, while 3-day weekends are ok for Congress to schedule, having a 4-day weekend requires they meet on the Friday before or Monday after in a Pro Forma session unless the other chamber agrees they can take a 4-day weekend while there's still work to be done.

On May 4, 2026, the White House published the statement Congressional Bill S. 723 Signed into Law. S723 - Tribal Trust Land Homeownership Act of 2025 was introduced by John Thune (R-SD) on February 25, 2025. The bill had 3 cosponsors (2 Republican and 1 Democrat). The 6-page bill is summarized as follows:

This bill sets forth requirements for the processing of a proposed residential leasehold mortgage, business leasehold mortgage, land mortgage, or right-of-way document by the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA). The BIA must notify lenders upon receipt of such documentation, perform a preliminary review of such documents not later than 10 days after receipt, and approve or disapprove of such documents within 20 or 30 days, depending on the type of application.

Additionally, the bill sets forth requirements for the BIA regarding (1) response times for the completion of certified title status reports, (2) notification of delays in processing, and (3) the form of notices and delivery of certain reports.

The bill also provides relevant federal agencies and Indian tribes with read-only access to the Trust Asset and Accounting Management System maintained by the BIA.

The Government Accountability Office must report on digitizing documents for the purpose of streamlining and expediting the completion of mortgage packages for residential mortgages on Indian land.

Finally, the bill establishes within the BIA's Division of Real Estate Services the position of Realty Ombudsman.

On May 4, 2026, the White House published America 250: Presidential Message on the Anniversary of the Battle of the Coral Sea recognizing that on May 4, 1942, American and Australian troops fought against tyranny in the Pacific. This shared sacrifice and courage established an enduring bond between us. The troops conducted relentless air strikes against the invading fleet for 4 days. This battle was the first time two opposing carriers battled one another from the sky as opposed to firing upon one another at sea. This battle led to the decisive victory at Midway a month later. President Trump writes:

As we reflect on this solemn anniversary of the Battle of the Coral Sea, we honor the unwavering grit of our service members and remember those heroes who willingly laid down their lives in the defense of freedom.  Standing shoulder to shoulder with our Australian partners, we will continue to champion the cause of peace and stability throughout the Indo-Pacific, ushering in a new Golden Age of security and prosperity for our Nation and our allies around the world.
