Ford's Flippant Faux Pas

Hat tip to
Stop the ACLU for the email.

Harold Ford has decided to dig deep to pull yet another faux pas with his latest comments about how Democrats Fear and Love God and Republicans just fear God.

HAROLD FORD, JR.: My friend Lincoln Davis who chairs our campaign says there are, there’s one big difference between us and misfortunate Republicans when it comes to our faith: he said that Republicans fear the Lord; he said Democrats fear AND love the Lord

See the video at Hot Air.

This one is definitely going to come back at bite him in the ass.

Harold Ford's record:

Voted NO on making it a crime to harm a fetus during another crime. (Feb 2004)
Voted NO on federal crime to harm fetus while committing other crimes. (Apr 2001)
Voted NO on military border patrols to battle drugs & terrorism. (Sep 2001)

Rated 33% by the Christian Coalition: an anti-family voting record. (Dec 2003)

Does this sound like a God loving man? You decide.

The this piece from "The Black Commentator"

This is not his first forray into the land of speaking about things he has no idea about.

In 2001:

Congressman Ford had issued a press release Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000 calling for a public press conference with Vice President Al Gore to denounce General Forrest and his career as a Confederate cavalry leader and later a reputed member of
the Ku Klux Klan.

On Wednesday, Aug. 2, under questioning by TV reporter Anna Marie Hartman, pointing out that General Forrest was a brilliant military commander, enlisted 65 black troopers in his cavalry, was a prominent civic leader, had disbanded the KuKlux in 1869, and had promoted black employment opportunities after the war, Congressman Ford conceded that Forrest was indeed a hero in the South.

When told that his comments had offended the Sons of Confederate Veterans, historians, and others, Ford brusquely replied, "I don't want to offend the Sons of Confederate Veterans, or anyone else, and the matter is dropped!!" Upon further prompting from Ms. Hartman, Congressman Ford stated that he had not presented this to Vice President Gore and had no further intentions of bringing it up.

The regionally-televised interview on NBC Channel 5 Memphis, the most powerful & most watched television station in the Mid- South area, was interspersed with pictures of Forrest monuments & markers, historical statements from Mr. Millar, comments by Ms. Hartman, and the above comments by Congressman Ford.

In a summation question from Ms. Hartman, Lee Millar stated that "when the North was invading Tennessee General Forrest whipped them at every turn. He's a hero to the South and throughout the world. And Congressman Ford's attempted attack is nothing more than a political ploy to attract attention and to distract the media from the on-going GOP convention."

Post about that is here.

Other comments on Ford:

"Listen to Ford talk, and he is the very measure of a modern Southern Democrat. His voting record, however, tells a slightly different tale. Ford is among the most liberal members of the Tennessee delegation, with a lifetime rating of 20 (on a scale of 0 to 100, 100 being arch-conservative) from the American Conservative Union. The ratings index for that group’s liberal counterpart, the Americans for Democratic Action, reflects the same thing, just in reverse... "
-- Metro Pulse, a Knoxville newspaper, on June 3, 2004

"... progressive blacks, including the 18 members of the Congressional Black Caucus that belong to the Congressional Progressive Caucus, are loathe to confront treason in the ranks, and thus allow malefactors like Harold Ford to work their show for the rich white corporate folks, without political penalty. Ford’s constituents in Memphis don’t even know that he’s stabbing them in the back. "
-- The Black Commentator, on January 6, 2005

Looks are not everything. A person should have some honor. I am the first to admit, there are not many politicians these days that do have honor, but they should.

We also have the fact that Harold Ford likes to claim he is a lawyer, as shown here, yet as we all know, you have to pass the bar exam to be a lawyer and Ford failed it in February of 1997.
After watching the two videos I linked to, perhaps you will come to the same conclusion I have... he lied.

Then there is the ultimate stupidity, where he insults his great-grandparents by claiming that his great-grandparents were whites living their lives as blacks.

Maybe the apple doesn't fall far from the tree after all.

Harold Ford, Jr. hails from an enormous, colorful family, including 91 first cousins. Seven Fords have held political office, 3 who were indicted of federal charges. One, Uncle Emmitt, was convicted in 1981 on insurance fraud. Uncle John, the most notorious Ford with 3 ex-wives, 12 children, loads of messy entanglements and a penchant for speeding while toting a gun, awaits trial on bribery charges.

Story here.

I guess the bottomline for me is he should not be casting stones at Republicans for their stance on God and religion because those stones could come back and knock his block off.

Once again, you decide. I already have.
