Nuclear Threats or Sex Scandal

On one hand we have the Foley FireStorm, on the other hand we have news on North Korea's announcement that it will be conducting a nuclear test. We also have Iran's
refusal to stop enrichment despite threats of sanctions, and what do we all choose to focus on? The Foley FireStorm WINS, hands down. What is wrong with this picture?

North Korea triggered global alarm on Tuesday by saying it will conduct a nuclear test, a key step in the manufacture of atomic bombs that it views as a deterrent against any U.S. attack. But the North also said it was committed to nuclear disarmament, suggesting a willingness to negotiate.

The contradictory statement fits a North Korean pattern of ratcheting up tension on the Korean Peninsula, a Cold War-era flashpoint, in an attempt to win concessions such as economic aid. The strategy has had mixed results in recent years as the totalitarian regime sinks deeper into isolation and poverty, with China serving as its lifeline for food and fuel.

Foley has resigned and is in rehab. The FBI is investigating the whole situation of who knew what and when.

Yet the Nuclear weapon threat has somehow managed to barely get a mention because the Foley FireStorm is much more important in the scheme of things. Have we managed to enter the twilight zone or what? In what Bizarro world is this acceptable? Glad I asked! The answer? POLITICS. Seems that politics and elections are more important than the Nuclear threat that Iran and North Korea pose to this world. How silly of me to think it should be any different. Shame on me.

Not to forget good ole Venezuela!!

Venezuela's recent deal to buy roughly $3 billion worth of arms from Russia — including rifles, jet fighters and helicopters — is triggering "more concern from more countries."

OH, and how about this amazing phenomenon with our schools? Three of them in three weeks.

I don't see much about all these things in the news or in the blogosphere. Nope, I see everyone is more concerned about Hastert and what he knew and when he knew it. Ummmmmmmm, isn't that what the FBI investigation is for? Or are we going to let the media be the judge, jury and executioner?

Looks like Sex trumps Global safety once again.

I do explain this astounding trend here with Plan A, Plan B and Plan C on the left side of the room.

I am going to add one more point here on this issue. I was JUST as disgusted with the Clinton/Lewinsky attention at the time, instead of the issues that were facing us then globally.
This is no different, we are taking our eye off the ball folks and other countries are noticing it, why aren't we?

[UPDATE] 10/08/06- It took a few days, but the frenzy dies down and people are starting to focus on the real issues once again.

We have Kristol's "A tale of two ads", Gina Cobb's "Foley: Tempest in a teapot", Townhall's "The Choice" and Hugh Hewitt.
