Nate Silver over at FiveThirtyEight has produced some graphs that are interesting by way of showing a pattern. Polling is a great snapshot at any given moment but patterns tend to show a trend which is more indicative of what a final result will be barring unforeseen circumstances.
The patterns that Silver shows are from 9/25 to now and I am skipping any candidate who did not reach the the 10 percent mark in that time frame.
Newt Gingrich starts low, stays even and now is surging.

Rick Perry starts high, goes low and is now showing a slight uptick again.

Herman Cain goes from low to high and heading back down again.

Mitt Romney starts high, goes higher and dropping fast now.

You can go see the graphs for the rest of the candidates over at FiveThirtyEight.
