Volcanism Now At Unprecedented Levels! Why? (Video)

By Susan Duclos

Scientists have been quietly speculating on the unprecedented levels of volcanic activity and according to the video below the obvious answer is the one overlooked. Graphs and maps are shown, which when looked at together, do show a level of activity that is getting worse  as the eruptions become larger.

In December 2012 it was reported that an unprecedented flurry of earthquakes were linked to widespread volcanoes activity. Other recent activity includes Japan's Mount Sakurajima saw it's 500th eruption this year, but it was the largest seen in decades. In August 2013, more reports about a remote Alaska volcano oozing lava again with some of it's highest ash plumes seen since it first began erupting in June. In Indonesia they are warning of rising volcanic activity.

If earthquakes are being connected to volcanic activity and we are seeing these unprecedented levels, it begs the question of what exactly is happening to Earth and how much worse will it get?
