Man Sues City With Trigger Happy Police Force (Video)

By Susan Duclos

A man shot by a police officer in May is suing the city of Austin and the officer who shot him, claiming the shooting was irrational and the Austin Police Department does not adequately train their officers, according to Statesman.

Officer Justin Boehm stopped 55-year-old James Barton for running a red light, when Barton exited his car, with his wallet in his hand, Boehm ordered him back into his car, authorities say. Boehm alleges Barton ignored his orders and made “furtive” movements as if reaching for a gun, which was when Boehm fired a shot that missed Barton.

"Police officials said Tuesday that the criminal investigation into the shooting is still under investigation and has yet to go to a grand jury but that the administrative investigation is near completion"
