A 24-year-old man is missing and believed to have been killed by a 15-foot crocodile in Northern Australia The man and a friend decided to swim across the Mary River, on Saturday at about 4pm near the camping ground of the Mary River Wilderness Retreat, which is a hotspot for crocodile spotters.
The snatching was witnessed by about 15 onlookers and according to police the man was part of a group attending a birthday celebration.
"They've swum across and on the return leg it appears a large crocodile has taken the person in question and he was witnessed to be in the jaws of the crocodile as it swum up the river," said a police officer, Geoff Bahnert.
"Large crocodiles usually drown their victims at the first instance to make them easier to control. So we have to assume from past incidents that, unfortunately, he may have died really quickly, said Bahnert.
