A newly released Obama campaign ad featuring, Lena Dunham, 26-year-old creator of HBO’s raunchy series Girls, is being called "disgusting," "astoundingly tasteless,"and the "most cringeworthy ad yet," because Dunham says in the ad "“You’re first time shouldn’t be with just anybody. You wanna do it with a great guy…”

Foreign Policy shows that this type of ad has been done before, by Russia's Vladimir Putin's presidential campaign.
I've watched the ad and find it is just the next step in a campaign that has run out of new ideas, so needs to steal one from Putin. A campaign that is watching their opponent, Mitt Romney, take large leads with Independents and large leads with voters concerned with the economy.
The Harvard Institute of Politics’ national survey of 18- to 29-year-olds, found that while likely young voters favor Obama by a 19-point margin—55 percent to Republican nominee Mitt Romney’s 36 percent—only 48 percent say that they definitely plan to vote next month. (Source- National Journal)
Obama needs the youth vote, hence this type of ad.
I think the problem the Obama campaign hasn't considered is that for every voter aged 18 to 29 that this ad might appeal to, Obama will lose a parent or both parents of those 18-29 year olds, that may not appreciate the sexual innuendo being aimed at their children.
