Messiah Must Now Be Called Martin, So Says A TN Judge (Video)

By Susan Duclos

It started because the parents  of Messiah DeShawn Martin could not agree on a last name for their child, so they went to court, where something unexpected happened.

Judge Ann Ballew, in what many are calling judicial overreach, determined the only true messiah is Jesus Christ, therefore the baby's first name must be changed to Martin.

Ballew told the WBIR TV station after the ruling, "The word 'messiah' is a title, and it's a title that has only been earned by one person, and that one person is Jesus Christ."

The mother is appealing the court's decision.

Messiah was listed as one of the  fastest-rising baby names for American boys in 2012, according to the Social Security Administration's annual list of popular baby names.
