Senate Rejects Feingold Withdrawal Bill

In yet another waste of time because everyone knew the proposal didn't have the 60 votes it needed to advance, the legislation proposed by Sen. Russell Feingold, D-Wis was defeated 29/67.

Roll call can be found here.

19 Democrats voted with the Republicans and independent Joe Lieberman to stop Feidngold's proposal from advancing.

The legislation would have cut off money for combat operations in Iraq after March 31, 2008.

The Senate did manage to agree on a "nonbinding" resolution expressing the need to pass a war spending bill by Memorial Day. The vote on that was 87/9.

Ya think?

From Townhall:

The other more controversial proposals had been expected to fall short of the 60 votes needed to advance under Senate rules, but was intended to gauge the tolerance of members on anti-war legislation. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid staged a series of war votes Wednesday to inform negotiations with the House on a war spending bill.

"We stand united.... in our belief that troops are enmeshed in an intractable civil war," said Reid, D-Nev.

Feingold's measure, co-sponsored by Reid and Sen. Christopher Dodd, D-Conn., proved divisive for Democrats. On the final vote, 19 Democrats joined 47 Republicans and Connecticut Independent Joseph Lieberman in opposing the measure. Of the 29 supporting were 28 Democrats and Vermont Independent Bernard Sanders.

Sen. Carl Levin, chairman of the Armed Services Committee, said he opposes any measure that cuts off money for the war.

"We don't want to send the message to the troops" that Congress does not support them, said Levin, D-Mich. "We're going to support those troops."

I have never liked Levin much, but to give credit where it is due, he has maintained and kept his promise that he would not vote for a meausre to pull the rug out from our troops feet and he has stuck to his word.

So once again, our troops wait for the Democratically controlled house and Senate to get off their asses and get them the funds they need and the Democratically controlled House and Senate are once again wasting time on votes that they know they will lose just so their supporters can see them "trying".

Well, you are not trying very hard when you bring something up for a vote that you ALREADY KNOW will not pass, that is called wasting time.

They wonder why their congressional approval rating has dropped below the presidents? It is because of the games, even though this was a senate vote, the Democrats in the Senate and in Congress continue to work together to do everything in their power to betray our troops.

Please remember to take a look at what is in store for Pelosi and Baghdad Reid tomorrow.

These types of political games while our troops wait for their funds is the reason.
