WELL, WE ARE NOT DONE
How many of you remember the commercial that opened with a view down a street that had a few of the houses displaying the American Flag? The commenter said something like, “People said that the events of 9/11 would change America forever. Well it did.” The next scene opens with all the houses displaying the American Flag. The same thing happened on my street. The American Flag that I had proudly flown since I lived there was suddenly joined by many others. I remember also the many cars on the street that had the window mounted American Flags. They were being sold in every store and at every major intersection.
The general discussion around the water coolers, weekend gatherings of friends, etc. was along the lines of, “You can’t do that to America and get away with it”. Our elected officials were beating their chests and saying almost what was said when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. “You have awoken a sleeping giant.”
Well, the scene on my street has returned to the same scene that opened the commercial. Except for mine, and very few others, the American Flags are only flown on Memorial Day, the 4th of July, and, perhaps Veterans Day. At times, I think that these flags are flown on that day somewhat like the residents leaving a note on their door. “I am not home. I am shopping the big sale at the mall”. Maybe they think that it is somewhat like going to church only on Easter Sunday or Christmas. “Good enough and, I get to mark that off my list of things to do.” They have returned to being the silent majority.
Our elected officials are not beating their chests anymore. A majority of them are trying to find a way to beat a retreat. Many of them are even trying to deny that they were for the war. These elected officials believe that the Anti-American groups such as ANSWER, Code Pink, etc are the new voice of America. Unfortunately, the elected officials on the left actually think that America should be the socialist state that these groups think it should be.
Our silent majority seems to be content that they are done with their check list. Our elected officials think that they are well on their way to being done in their attempt to sell this country down the river.
Well, we are not done. For me, it started at the Gathering of Eagles on March 17th. I spent most of the day hanging with one of our nation’s best. He is a Rolling Thunder member. I remember the tears that I shed at the Wall. I also remember how my eyes began to water over as we climbed the steps toward the Lincoln Memorial. Yes, there they were. Our American Flags and POW/MIA flags were flying proudly on that cold and windy day as we faced off against the Anti-Americans. I remember thinking of that song, THE BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN “Guess who just got back today. Those wild-eyed boys that had been away”.
Yes, we are back, and we are not done. We will take back what we fought for. We will take back what many have died for. WE ARE NOT DONE..
