Seems reports by AFP, Huffington Post, Daily Mail, Telegraph and Australian about Malia Obama on Spring Break vacation in Oaxaca, Mexico have been disappearing down the rabbit hole either rerouting the article URLs to other stories, main pages or simply giving 404 errors.
The original IBTimes article can be found HERE.
TheBlaze has captured screen shots of the before and after pages in question.
The Politico email the White House to find out why:
UPDATE: Kristina Schake, Communications Director to the First Lady, emails to confirm this was a White House effort:
From the beginning of the administration, the White House has asked news outlets not to report on or photograph the Obama children when they are not with their parents and there is no vital news interest. We have reminded outlets of this request in order to protect the privacy and security of these girls.
While children should be off the list of attacks, the stories themselves never attacked Malia, merely provided information on yet another taxpayer funded vacation for an Obama.
25 Secret Service men had to be sent with Obama's eldest daughter, they have to eat, need lodgings, the plane trips to and from Mexico and all the extras that go with a member of the first family traveling, and after the Obama's $4 million Hawaii Christmas vacation, then Michelle and the kids heading to Aspen just weeks later for a skiing vacation, in some minds this story is a "vital news interest", especially in the context of the out-of-control vacationing and spending by the Obama's when the country's national debt is over $15 trillion and rising.
What makes this even more a story now is how the Obama media will instantly scrubs stories that the White House asks them to.
Makes me wonder how many other little vacation trips were never reported. Makes it hard to keep the list of Obama vacations updated if the mainstream media acts like a state run media and scrubs or doesn't report anything Obama doesn't want reported.
[Update] Now the scrubbing Malia's Oaxaca, Mexico story is being scrubbed. Via Buzzfeed:
The item, first posted last night by Politico's Dylan Byers, originally noted that news sites were removing the Malia story.
Then, this morning, the post was updated with comment from the White House confirming that it was involved with efforts to remove the story — but the Politico post itself was now missing information about the trip. Specifically, the current version of the story makes no reference to where the president's daughter is going: Mexico, which can also be found by Googling Obama's daughter's name and "trip."
Rachel Smolkin, Politico's White House editor, confirmed that they removed the information after talking to the Obama administration, citing safety concerns.
"After some internal discussions and conversations with the White House, we adjusted the post for security reasons," Smolkin told BuzzFeed.
