Despite all the hoopla created across the liberal blogosphere and media about the decrease in jobless claims in December, anyone with a working brain cell understood that around Christmas, temporary workers are hired all over to deal with the shopping increase.
Just as those same people with common sense understood that in January, jobless claims would rise again, and that is exactly what happened.
Applications for unemployment insurance rose by 24,000 to a seasonally adjusted 399,000 in the week ending Jan. 7, the highest level in six weeks, the Labor Department reported on Thursday.
The unemployment rate and jobless claims numbers will be much more predictive around February when the holiday and after holiday fluctuations start to level out.
