Hot off the wires and listed as "breaking" from Associated Press, Hillary Clinton will concede Tuesday night that Barack Obama has the delegates to secure the Democratic nomination.
Unofficially official? I use that term for a reason, if she is willing to admit that Obama has the delegates to take the nomination, knowing that ends her bid, but refuses to technically suspend her campaign, she is prolonging the agony of defeat for herself as well as her presence as someone just waiting for something huge, like some sort of bombshell against Obama, to step in and save the day for the Democrats.
Why not just concede the whole thing? What will she be waiting for?
The advisers said Clinton has made a strategic decision to not formally end her campaign, giving her leverage to negotiate with Obama on various matters including a possible vice presidential nomination for her. She also wants to press him on issues he should focus on in the fall, such as health care.
In a formal statement the Clinton campaign made it clear that "Senator Clinton will not concede the nomination", but reports are showing that the superdelegates are finally ready to step in and cast their votes for Obama which should cause what they are calling the "domino effect" for other superdelegates to do the same.
Yesterday eight superdelegates announced their choice and two went to Clinton while six went to Obama and since Obama is now 40 delegates short of having the magic number of 2,118, after the primaries tonight, with some remaining uncommitted superdelegates throwing endorsement to Obama, he could reach the magic number by tomorrow morning, which is why Clinton would be willing to concede the delegates count tonight, but not officially hand him the nomination.
So technically she will remain in the race but Obama will have it sewn up.
As everything has been in this campaign, even Clinton's concession will be complicated and confusing so an unofficial, official concession is about on par with the campaign season so far.
