First paragraph:
According to ABC News, reports that al-Qaeda in Iraq leader Abu Ayyub al-Masri has been killed are “unconfirmed and part of a misinformation campaign.” ABC has not posted its full story yet, and details are unclear, but it’s worth reviewing the last time the media reported major news about al-Masri.
In the meantime here is ABC's official report that Think Progress ignores:
ABC News reports, the leader of al-Qaida in Iraq, Abu Ayyub al-Masri has been killed in an internal fight between militants in Baghdad.
Sources say neither US nor Iraqi forces were involved.
Masri, an Egyptian, assumed the leadership of al-Qaida in Iraq after Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was killed in a US air strike in June of last year.
Please note ABC is about the only news source that isn't qualifying its report with the word UNCONFIRMED as of yet.
The the UNthinking Progress go on to regurgitate old news before following up with this:
Today’s news converage of Masri’s death may shift attention away from stories that are damaging to Bush: the four year anniversary of “Mission Accomplished,” and the official signing of Congress’s Iraq timeline legislation.
Anyone here surprised?
Amazing how terrified of any potential good news about Iraq they seem to be.
Maybe Elvis led the charge against al-Masri and the little grey men from area 51 are doing the DNA for us too!!!!!!!!!!
For the record, I am checking every news story out and the reports of al-Masri are still unconfirmed by the US.... keep up with the updates at my previous post.
