Cut Pakistan off.
Not another dime should be given to Pakistan. We recently came to find out that Osama bin Laden had been hiding in Pakistan for well over 5 years, very close to Pakistan's military academy.
The U.S. Navy SEALS went in and killed him.
Good riddance.
That has brought up questions about who in Pakistan knew bin Laden had been living there and how he could be living there for so long undiscovered and many other questions, including, why are we giving Pakistan monetary aid?
Now I see a CNN headline "Pakistan's parliament condemns U.S. raid, threatens sanctions."
Here is a little fact, via Reuters FactBox (Lets add that site to the previous post showing Bill Clinton how many fact check sites are available):
But since 2001, Congress has approved about $20 billion for Pakistan in direct U.S. aid and military reimbursements, the Congressional Research Service (CRS) says.
This makes Pakistan one of the largest recipients of U.S. assistance, although much of it is labeled as reimbursements and not all has been delivered yet.
Fine.
Pakistan wants to condemn the US for going in and killing Osama bin Laden, the figurehead leader of al-Qaeda who bragged about giving the order for the 9/11 attacks that killed thousands of Americans, then the U.S. should cut off all aid, all money that we give Pakistan.
Period. No more.
I am not the first one to suggest this, others have and Congressional lawmakers were discussing the option even before the Pakistan parliament decided to condemn our actions against bin Laden.
One lawmaker, Dana Rohrabacher (R- CA) has gone as far as introducing the "Defund United States Assistance to Pakistan Act of 2011," which would prohibit any assistance to Pakistan.
That bill was referred to the House Committee on Foreign Affairs on 5/5/11.
There is no reason to trust Pakistan at this point and after $20 billion given to them, the audacity of the Pakistan parliament to take such a vote and make threats, is simply confirmation.
I think Howie, over at The Jawa Report, puts this well, succinct and to the point.
Since President Obama cannot say this and Joe Biden has the day off, let me help out here.
Dear Pakistani Parliament,
Go suck a root.
Love America.
Well put Howie.
