Obama's campaign said in a statement: "Senator Obama visited this morning with John and Elizabeth Edwards at their home in Chapel Hill to discuss the state of the campaign and the pressing issues facing American families."
At issue is a statement Obama made in November on a questionnaire for the Midwest Democracy Network, which asked: “If you are nominated for president in 2008 and your major opponents agree to forgo private funding in the general election campaign, will you participate in [the] presidential public financing system?”
An endorsement from Edwards could be very beneficial to either the Obama or Clinton campaigns, which are in a virtual dead heat at this point. Clinton has moved on in her campaign from Wisconsin to Texas in an attempt to rally her support there.
Still at issue, as well, are the super-delegates and how they will play in, in the end, as well as what, if anything, will be done about the stripped delegates from Michigan and Florida. There is much debate and discussion regarding the inclusion of the stripped delegates at the convention and how to handle their numbers. Many feel that to include them, at this point, would give an unfair advantage to Clinton, due to the number of voters who didn't come to the polls to vote for Obama.
