Ralph Nader is launching a third-party campaign for president. The consumer advocate made the announcement Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press." He says most Americans are disenchanted with the Democratic and Republican parties, and that none of the presidential contenders are addressing ways to stem corporate crime and Pentagon waste and promote labor rights.
Here is his campaign site.
Before he announced, there were pleas for him to please not do it from the left side of the blogosphere.
Nader’s rumbling — please god, no
Now that he has announced.... reactions are starting to come out.
Reactions from the left:
Carpetbagger Report:
But given all of this, why bother? Why would someone with an impressive legacy on behalf of consumer take additional steps to make his enemies happy, his allies resentful, and his reputation tarnished?
From the right:
CQ thinks Nader is nothing but a speck on the screen but that a Bloomberg run would do a little more damage than what Nader could possibly manage.
If there are any "over the top" reactions to Nader's announcement, I will update with them.
More from CNN and Reuters.
[Update] The Politico has an interesting tidbit:
Democrats say they will work behind the scenes — and use court challenges, if necessary — to try to thwart his access to ballots.
The are talking about Nader...nothing like denying the public the chance to have their own candidate if they so choose.
They have quotes from members of the Clinton campaign and so much for the party that wants every voice heard...LOL
