The stink of desperation is all over the Democrats as well as their robotic little lapdogs on the left side of the blogosphere.....or is that backwards, is the left side of blogosphere their lord and masters and are the politicians the robotic little lapdogs?
No matter.
After having failed miserably to snatch defeat from the success and progress our fine military has been seeing of late, they are desperately trying another method which will of course be blocked again in the Senate, but hey, they can cry to their supporters "we tried!!!!!!!!"
Reminder of the most recent successes:
• On Monday came news that U.S. military deaths in Iraq fell to 64 in September, the fourth straight drop since peaking at 121 in May and driving the toll to a 14-month low.
• Civilian deaths also have plunged, dropping by more than half from August to 884. Remember just six months ago all the talk of an Iraqi "civil war"? That seems to be fading.
• The just-ended holy month of Ramadan in Iraq was accompanied by a 40% drop in violence, even though al-Qaida had vowed to step up attacks.
• Speaking of al-Qaida, the terrorist group appears to be on the run, and possibly on the verge of collapse — despite making Iraq the center of its war for global hegemony and a new world order based on precepts of fundamentalist Islam.
• Military officials say U.S. troops have killed Abu Usama al-Tunisi, a Tunisian senior leader of al-Qaida in Iraq who was responsible for bringing foreign fighters into the country. Not surprisingly, the pace of foreign fighters entering Iraq has been more than halved from the average of 60 to 80 a month.
• Last month, 1,200 Iraqis waited patiently in line in Iraq's searing heat to sign up to fight al-Qaida. They will join an estimated 30,000 volunteers in the past six months — a clear sign the tide has turned in the battle for average Iraqis' hearts and minds.
• Finally, and lest you think it's all death and destruction, there's this: Five million Iraqi children returned to school last week, largely without incident, following their summer vacations.
None of this, of course, is accidental. The surge of 28,500 new troops announced by President Bush last February, and put in place in mid-June by Gen. Petraeus, seems to have worked extraordinarily well. Al-Qaida, though still a potent foe capable of committing mass atrocities, has been backpedaling furiously.
"They are very broken up, very unable to mass, and conducting very isolated operations" is how Brig. Gen. Joseph Anderson described al-Qaida's situation in comments this week.
Reminder of the desperation that is shared with the Democrats with al-Qaeda:
Shortly before he died, Al Tunisi wrote a letter that warned of a threat to Al Qaida operations in Karkh. The lettter, found by the U.S. military, sought guidance from Al Qaida leaders amid coalition operations that hampered Al Tunisi's network.
"We are so desperate for your help," the letter read.
They tried to distract with Rush Limbaugh but that lie blew up in their face so now they are trying to distract their base from the fact that they passed National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2008 yesterday, (I posted the roll call for that vote last night at that link) they are now trying to threaten the American people by passing a war surcharge and saying "If you don’t like the cost, then shut down the war".
Today, Obey told reporters he had "no intention" of approving a funding request "that simply serves to continue the status quo."
Status quo at this point means kicking al-Qaeda's ass, reconciliation between differing factions of Iraqi's and making political and military progress....so what course does Obey want changed?
He wants our military to stop winning.
Amazing how they will admit without saying the actual words that they WANT AMERICA TO FAIL and are doing everything they can to force defeat upon us, even as far as to drop the pretense of wanting to win and trying to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
Pathetic.
Jules Crittenden catches Harry Reid finally admitting the truth:
This from Reid’s letter read on the Senate floor:“Our troops are fighting and dying to bring to others the freedoms that many take for granted.”
That sounds like a worthwhile cause. Reid’s letter was to be available on the Senate floor all day for other senators of both parties to add their names. It’ll be fascinating to see who has signed on in support of the war for freedom in Iraq, Afghanistan, North Africa, the Philippines and so many foreign fields where American soldiers are now engaged.
Wow Reid. Is that what we are doing??? You mean we were right this whole time???

Ways and Means Ranking Member Jim McCrery (R-La.) issued the following statement today in response to a Democratic proposal to impose a new surtax of up to 15 percent to pay for the costs of the War on Terror.
“This proposal would be detrimental to our economy and our national security. It has become clear over the past year that the Majority’s response to any public policy issue is to raise taxes, but this is ridiculous. Trying to coerce the American people into cutting and running from Iraq with the threat of an astronomical tax increase is cynical and transparent.”
The stink of desperation on the Democrats at this point can be smelled even through the computer here.
Once again the Democrat politicians are showing they have boxed themselves into a corner they cannot get out of.
They bet against America....bad idea.
They bet against our troops.... even a worse idea.

All told, the Democratic proposal for an “Iraq tax” lasted about four hours. That’s roughly the amount of time from when House Appropriations Committee Chairman David Obey (D-Wis.) gave life to the idea with his endorsement to when House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) strangled it.
“Just as I have opposed the war from the outset, I am opposed to a draft and I am opposed to a war surtax,” Pelosi said in a statement issued this afternoon.
I am quick to criticize Pelosi when she makes idiotic statements but I have to be fair and be just as quick to say good job when she makes a call I agree with.
So... mark this day in history because I am sure she will do something to annoy me before the day or week is over because I am going to say it... ready?
Thank you Nancy Pelosi. Good decision, in my opinion.
