Fukushima Leaks Cause Olympic Fears (Video Report)

By Susan Duclos

The three candidate cities for the 2020 Olympics are Istanbul, Madrid and Tokyo and Japan is trying to fend off concerns about the the Fukushima power plant disaster, where massive radiation and radiotive leaks are continuing unchecked, to the International Olympic Committee ahead of the September 7, 2013 decision on what city will host them.

During a news conference bid leader Tsunekazu Takeda, was asked multiple questions about the safety concerns.

"Not one person has been affected by the radiation issue," he said through a translator. "Fukushima and Tokyo are 250 kilometres apart. Since we are quite remote you don't need to be concerned about this issue."

In the video below, they claim to have the situation under control, which by all accounts, is not the case as new leaks are being found, hundreds of tons of radioactive water is being dumped into the Pacific Ocean and in desperation Japan has just announce they will pledge $470 million to build an "ice wall" around the devastated plant.
