Day One: Democratic Convention, Michelle Obama and Co. Confirm Democrats Are Party Of Big Government

By Susan Duclos

Starting with Michelle Obama's speech (video will be below the post), which I have read the transcript of but didn't watch, I literally chose to have a molar pulled on her speech day rather than listen it, we see Michelle and Democrats embracing the label of Big Government Democrats.

Andrew Malcolm points to Michelle's alternate reality where Barack Obama isn't divisive or ideologically driven.

The Blaze  has video of  Chris Wallace complimenting Michelle Obama on a "masterful" speech but then he highlights how most of what she spoke of was government, government, government...... and yes, more government:

“I’ve got to say, listening closely to the speech one of the things that struck me was it was all about government,” Wallace said Tuesday night during Fox News’ coverage of the DNC. “When she talked at the beginning about the people who exemplify the best of the American spirit, she talked about teachers and first responders and the military, all very admirable professions, but all government.”

He continued: “When she talked about ways to build the middle class, it was all about the auto bailout and student loans and health care reform, once again, all government programs…That was a subtle subtext to the entire speech.”

Wallace also accused the first lady of being somewhat hypocritical when she said that Obama sees the nation as one America, saying “that certainly hasn’t been the way this president has run the campaign, which has been quite sharp, quite partisan, quite negative.”

Finally, after being in Tampa for the Republican National Convention, Wallace explained that the contrast between the two conventions in both tone and message could not be starker.

“The difference in tone and philosophy…the reliance on government, the praise on government, the central role it plays and their vision of America — very different from what we heard from Republicans in Tampa,” Wallace added.

A portion of a video seen at the convention has been spotlighted as well where it says "Government is the only thing we all belong to"... Prate's Cove, Malkin, Ace of Spades, Twitchy, , The Jawa Report, Sister Toldjah, Blue Crab Boulevard and BabalĂș Blog are all talking about that.

Romney's initial response came via Twitter:

The Associated Press, via ABC News calls out some of the first day's speakers from the Democratic convention for leaving out important details or embellishing Obama's record.

CNN Fact Check addresses the 4.5 million jobs figure Democrats and Obama continue to throw around:

The figure of 4.5 million jobs is accurate if you look at the most favorable period and category for the administration. But overall, there are still fewer people working now than when Obama took office at the height of the recession.

A couple other points are addressed by The Lid who spotlights how the Democrats stripped the pro-Israel language out of their 2008 platform for their 2012 platform and The Body File finds the word "God" stripped as well.

All in all, the differences between the Republican Convention and the Democratic Convention are many, but the glaring difference is how one embraces personal initiative and the other big Government.

Convention Related News:

Obama's speech is being moved indoors due to the expected rain on the night his speech, shortchanging 65,000 ticket holders.

I wonder if they are going to refund any money spent on tickets, travel and accommodations for people that only paid money for those things so they could see Obama's speech in person.

Initially Democrats claimed come rain or shine Obama's speech would move forward at the Bank of America Stadium which is outdoors, but after recent speculation that convention organizers couldn't fill the stadium, now those organizers coincidentally have decided to cite safety concerns.
