John Boehner is catching a few criticisms for recent comments:
But at a June 30 fundraiser in Wheeling, W.Va., Speaker John Boehner offered a surprisingly frank assessment of the dynamic that surprised some in the audience.
Aside from Romney’s “friends, relatives and fellow Mormons,” Boehner said, most people will be motivated to vote for him in opposition to Obama.
The Ohio Republican made the remarks when an unidentified woman asked during a question-and-answer session: “Can you make me love Mitt Romney?”
“No,” Boehner said. “Listen, we’re just politicians. I wasn’t elected to play God. The American people probably aren’t going to fall in love with Mitt Romney. I’ll tell you this: 95 percent of the people that show up to vote in November are going to show up in that voting booth, and they are going to vote for or against Barack Obama.
“Mitt Romney has some friends, relatives and fellow Mormons ... some people that are going to vote for him. But that’s not what this election is about. This election is going to be a referendum on the president’s failed economic policies.
“Mitt Romney believes, just like we do, that if we’re going to get the economy back, if we’re going to put the American people back to work, we need to fix the tax code, we need to stop the regulatory juggernaut that’s going on in Washington and we need to fix our economy. Solid guy, he’s going to do a great job, even if you don’t fall in love with him.”
Speaker Boehner is 100 percent correct.
It is now four years later and hopefully Americans understand that "loving" a candidate doesn't mean he is prepared or capable of the job of President of the United States.
Obama has failed to keep promise after promise that he made in 2008 and the list of his lack of accomplishments is long.
Unemployment is 8.2 percent and has been over 8 percent for 41 straight months, manufacturing is down for the first time in three years, the U.S. has seen it's credit rating dropped from AAA to AA+ with some agencies dropping it again to AA, the economy needs up to 200K+ new jobs a month to grow because the workforce expands each month, so 80,000 jobs means we are going backwards, not forward, consumer spending had stalled, in Obama's first 3 years and two months in office he increased the national debt more than George Bush did in eight years, and food stamp usage has doubled since 2008. 75 percent of Obamacare tax hikes will hit middle class Americans.
Barack Obama's answer to his failures is it's a "step in the right direction."

But it has become increasingly difficult for the president to argue that what he has tried is working well, or that he has something new to offer. Each month that the economy produces fewer jobs than are needed just to keep pace with population growth adds to the burden the president faces as the clock ticks toward November.
A quick turnaround doesn’t appear likely, given recent analyses. The Federal Reserve’s latest assessment projecting slower growth than previously forecast bodes ill for the incumbent.......
Americans tried voting for someone who was popular but without a resume when the American voters bought into pretty promises and elected Barack Obama and they have seen the worst recovery from a recession since the Great Depression.
John Boehner is right, we don't have to "love" Mitt Romney, voters just have to ask themselves if Romney would do a better job than Obama or if they want to spend another four years going backwards.
Most voters should choose competence over popularity any day of the week, 365 days a year.
