Turkish Terror Plot Foiled

bin Laden issued a video last week, we discussed it here and here, as well as reports of another video released today, on the sixth anniversary of 9/11.

New York - Al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden eulogised one of the September 11 hijackers in a video released on Tuesday's sixth anniversary of the attacks that still traumatise the United States.

As Americans remembered the almost 3 000 people killed, attempted bomb attacks and security alerts kept the world on alert. One bomb was disarmed in Ankara and German police launched a major operation at a US military base after receiving threats.

The al-Qaeda leader was seen in a still image on the new video in which he gives a commentary praising hijacker Walid al-Shehri, CNN television reported.

Al-Shehri was aboard American Airlines Flight 11, the first jet to crash into the World Trade Centre in New York on September 11 2001.

IntelCentre, a US-based organisation that monitors Islamic militant websites, said it had a copy of the video which lasts 47 minutes and does not include moving images of Bin Laden.

IntelCentre said the video is titled: "The Wills of the Heroes of the Raids on New York and Washington, The Will of the Martyr (As We See Him) Abu Mus'ab Walid al-Shehri, With a Forward by Sheikh Osama bin Laden."

His desire to taunt the U.S. and exploit the trauma inflicted on us as a country on the anniversary of 9/11 is just an example of this man and his sick and cowardly ways.

Taunting us is not his ultimate goal though, his ultimate goal since well before 9/11 as his statements from 1996 and 1998 told us, was to continue to attack us here at home as well as our interests abroad.

September 4, 2007, we saw reports of a foiled terror plot in Denmark, Eleven raids carried out in the greater Copenhagen area, leading to eight arrests is being credited with preventing a terrorist bombing linked to al-Qaeda.

September 5, 2007, reports of a foiled terror attack came to us from Germany and we showed, in detail, the trend of failed terror attacks being foiled because of disorganization and lack of being able to plan these attacks as they did with the 9/11 attack.

Three men in German, Islamic militants, have been arrested as suspects in a large scaled plot to attack an air base at Ramstein and the Frankfurt international airport, all frequented by Americans.

We learned yesterday via multiple new sources our intelligence gathering capabilities help to foil those attacks.

Today we see yet another failed attempt and a foiled terror plot in Turkey's capital, Ankara, preventing a large bomb from exploding. Tightened security is being credited with foiling this latest terror attack.

Police in Turkey's capital, Ankara, have prevented a large bomb from exploding, the city's governor said.

Sniffer dogs detected a van stuffed with explosives in the centre of the city, preventing a "possible catastrophe", Governor Kemal Onal said.

Security had been tightened in the city ahead of the sixth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks in the United States.

[...]

Security fears were heightened elsewhere in Europe as police in Germany moved to help secure a US air base after a bomb threat was made by telephone.

While we remember the devastation of 9/11, today, six years later, terrorists have been plotting terror attacks across the globe which have been foiled at almost every turn.

There is no doubt that it will only take one successful attack to devastate and kill innocent people in which the murdering al-Qaeda will, of course, declare that they are not as impotent as they have been as of late, but we must continue to remember these failed plots and count the amounts of innocent lives saved by foiling these acts of terrorism, because when all is said and done, the amount of lives saved will be far more than the amount of lives lost in this global war on terror and that is the one aspect that people tend to ignore.
