Mesa Community College was locked down tonight, 9/12/07, while security and police looked for a gunman that was reported on campus.
The gunman is still at large and the campus is no longer on lockdown.
Evening classes at a local community college were disrupted Wednesday as the school was placed under lockdown.
Mesa police spokesman Chris Arvayo says there was a road rage incident on the US 60 between two vehicles carrying people known to each other. The drivers pulled into a parking lot on the Mesa Community College campus at Dobson Rd. and Southern Avenue. A discussion continued during which a gun was mentioned.
Campus Safety officers activated an emergency notification system that called all telephones on campus to advise faculty, staff and students they were under a lockdown.
A student who had been working in a computer lab said, “One of the ladies that work at the front desk came up and just told us we were in lockdown. The police have a situation up front and we have to keep you here until it’s over.”
