Obligatory post here about the chimichanga war running rampant across the Internet.
Backstory is HERE, but from what I understand Obama campaign manager Jim Messina tweeted "Line of the day from WAPO's Dana Milbank: "The chimichanga? It may be the only thing Republicans have left to offer Latinos."
This created a firestorm across the Internet and on Twitter with Republicans and Conservatives calling the remark insensitive to Hispanics with Hispanic groups chiming in.
Case in point, the Hispanic Leadership Network issued a press release demanding an apology.
WASHINGTON, DC – Hispanic Leadership Network (HLN) Executive Director Jennifer Sevilla Korn today issued the following statement in response to a tweet from Obama 2012 Campaign Manager Jim Messina, saying: "Line of the day from WAPO’s Dana Milbank: ‘The chimichanga? It may be the only thing Republicans have left to offer Latinos.’"
"The fact that the campaign manager of President Obama’s reelection campaign thinks it’s appropriate to disseminate insulting jokes about the Hispanic community is a perfect example of the kind of empty rhetoric that characterizes this White House’s so-called outreach to Latinos. We demand that Mr. Messina immediately apologize and we ask that President Obama disavow his campaign manager’s ridiculous statement. Liberals are always trying to put Hispanics in a box. In typical fashion, when liberals cannot speak substantively to the top issues facing our community, they resort to name calling.
How insulting and condescending, @Messina2012 must apologize immediately and Obama must disavow
"The facts remain the same, and they are no laughing matter. President Obama broke his campaign promises to the Hispanic community on jobs and immigration. Our community is suffering from over 11% unemployment rate. In addition, President Obama has deported more immigrants than any other U.S. president in history. When confronted with his record, this President has no standing with Hispanic voters across our country."
So, now we have a Chimichanga War, which in my mind is just as silly as the the constant barrage of liberals screaming the word racist every time someone disagrees with Barack Obama or when Democrats insist Republicans are using "code" words to promote racism.
People say stupid things, generally those stupid comments are not said with the intent of promoting racism or insults against one particular group of people.
On the other hand, if liberals don't want Republicans to jump on every single stupid remark a Democrat makes or an Obama campaign guy tweets, then Democrats should also not jump on every single stupid remark a Republican or conservative says or tweets.
In the meantime, I didn't know what a chimichanga was, so I looked it up and I'll be damned if I am not hungry now.
