The other day Wake up America and others captured screenshots of the Barack Obama website and the launch of the Obama Event Registry where people celebrating special events in their lives are asked to forego their gifts and instead have the gift givers use that money to donate to Barack Obama's reelection campaign.
Snopes, a website dedicated to researching urban legends, either confirming or debunking stories, rumors and information that is put out on the internet, has deemed this worthy of addressing.
The claim: The Obama Event Registry allows users celebrating special occasions to solicit campaign donations in place of gifts.
Conclusion: True
It was easy enough to determine the truthfulness of the claim by simply clicking the link to the Obama Event Registry as well as news organizations like CBS News and Fox News both reporting on the new campaign fundraising gimmick.
What does it say about the Obama campaign that the story is so unbelievable that Snopes had to provide confirmation that it was real?
