In response to a letter sent from the House Armed Services Committee's chairman Ike Skelton, Secretary of Defense Robert Gates and Chairman of the Joint Chief's Of Staff Michael Mullen, caution Congress to not act on the DADT (Don't Ask, Don't tell) policy until the military review is completed.
"I hope Congress will not do so, as it would send a very damaging message to our men and women in uniform that in essence their views, concerns, and perspectives do not matter on an issue with such a direct impact and consequence for them and their families

Skelton specifically asks for Gates' opinion on this issue to "help" him as the issue inevitably comes up before his committee.
