If this is the kind of anti-American rhetoric we can expect...
I say, let them secede. Help them to secede. Let's be done with it. Let them set their own nation up and deal with us as a foreign government, because in MY mind, they're already there anyway.
Unless you've been under a rock lately, or stranded on a dessert island, you know about the situation ongoing in Berkeley regarding the United States Marine Corps recruitment center located in Berkeley.
For those of you who DO need a little catching up, here it is in a nutshell; Code Pink has been protesting the existence of the Marine recruiting center in Berkeley, and the city council has publicly condemned the Marines for BEING MARINES.
NEED I REMIND anyone that we currently have, and HAVE HAD FOR AROUND THIRTY YEARS, a VOLUNTEER ARMED FORCES?
What part of this is so hard for people to understand?

You may not be aware of the situation in Berkeley, California. The mainstream media has not been reporting on it. Here is the situation. The Berkeley City Council has told the Marine Recruiting Office to get out of Berkeley.
Senator Jim DeMint of South Carolina has put together a video that shows you explicitly what the City Council members of Berkeley said about our Marines and the effort to force the recruiters to leave the city. They include comments from the Mayor who says that the Marines "don't belong here in Berkeley."
These people aren't just against the war, they are against our soldiers who are fighting and dying in that war.
Now, it must be said at this point that the mayor of Berkeley DID APOLOGIZE for all of this:
As six Republican senators devised a plan to yank $2.3 million in federal funding for Berkeley programs, the mayor of the famously liberal city apologized Wednesday for his hard stance against a Marine recruiting center.
Two City Council members vowed to soften their stance as well.
Right.
Maybe we would believe they were sincere about it if it wasn't for the existence of this video and the photo of the mayor on Code Pink's web site.
They are LESS CONCERNED with making peace with the Marines and MORE CONCERNED with the loss of funding as proposed by Senator Jim Demint.
If Berkeley feels this way, that's fine. They're well within their rights to express their opinions and their thoughts. However, they must bear in mind that actions lead to consequences. They must be willing to stand by those beliefs and to accept the consequences of their actions.
Let them secede. Don't even give them the option. They obviously don't want the protection of our nations armed forces. Let them fend for themselves. I've even got the perfect name for them already picked out; The People's Republik of Berkeley.
Our nation was founded by better men than these. Our nation was founded by, and is still defended by, men and women who understand that it takes those who are willing to kill, who are willing to die, who are willing to sacrifice themselves for the duration of a people.
Those of us who have "been there, done that," ARE NOT IMPRESSED with the stance taken by the Berkeley city counsel. Nor are we amused. This is not the first time that Berkeley has hit the headlines for such controversy, nor will it be the last if we continue to tolerate their anti-American spiel.
The sad thing is, the sad, simple fact of the matter is that these very Marines that these people vilify, these very Marines that they so despise, have signed on, voluntarily, so that such people as these can have the right to espouse their vitriol, and would and do give their lives so that such people as these can live free.
I had the good fortune to be friends in college with one of these men, who I have the honor and privilege of saying, as an army veteran, truly was one of "the few, the proud, the Marines."
God rest your soul, Brent. I wish you were still with us, but I'm glad you aren't seeing what they're saying about your Corps in Berkeley.
