Rand Paul Launches Talking Filibuster Against Obama's CIA Nominee John Brennan

By Susan Duclos

[Update] The talking filibuster lasted nearly 13 hours and began with Rand Paul saying  "I will speak until I can no longer speak. I will speak as long as it takes, until the alarm is sounded from coast to coast that our Constitution is important, that your rights to trial by jury are precious, that no American should be killed by a drone on American soil without first being charged with a crime, without first being found to be guilty by a court."

Original post below.

Angered and frustrated by a response from the Obama administration refusing to rule out attacking American citizens on American soil by drones, Rand Paul has launched, what is now over 7 hours  of a talking filibuster and says he will continue talking until he can talk no more or until Obama will say" 'no,' he will not kill you at a café."

The Hill:

Paul began the filibuster at 11:45 a.m. to prevent Senate Democrats from ending debate on Brennan and moving to a final vote. The Kentucky Republican spoke on the floor for more than three hours by himself before he was joined by Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) — who, like Paul, is a favorite of the Tea Party Movement.

Paul's effort is aimed at drawing attention to the administration's drone program, which Brennan played a key role in administering as White House counterterrorism chief.

“I’m here to filibuster John Brennan’s nomination to be director of CIA,” Paul said on the Senate floor Wednesday as he began a long afternoon of speaking. “I will speak for as long as it takes.
Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Jerry Moran (R-Kan.), Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.), Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) and John Cornyn (R-Texas) eventually helped Paul continue the filibuster, as did Sen. Ron Wyden (Ore.), the only Democrat to join the effort so far.

Kudos to Rand Paul.
