Gourmet Boutique, L.L.C Recalled 286,320 Pounds Of Meat And Poultry Products

Gourmet Boutique, L.L.C., a Jamaica, N.Y., firm is voluntarily recalling meat and poultry products because of possible Listeria contamination.
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) issued a release on May 3, 2008, announcing that Gourmet Boutique, L.L.C was recalling 286,320 pounds of fresh and frozen meat and poultry products that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

You can find out more about Listeria at the CDC website.

The fresh meat and poultry salad products were produced between April 19 and April 24.

The frozen products were produced between October 23, 2007, and April 23, 2008.

These recalled products were sent to food service and retail establishments nationwide.

The meat may be contaminated with Listeria monocyotogenes bacteria, which can cause a rare but potentially fatal disease known as listeriosis, the USDA said. Infants, the elderly, people with HIV and patients undergoing chemotherapy are among those at risk for the disease.

Listeriosis also can cause miscarriages and stillbirths.

There have been no reported illnesses at this time.

This is considered a Class 1 recall, which means it is a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.

Out of the three types of classifications, a class 1 is the most serious.
