One college student is in custody today after authorities found explosives, what appears to be two pipe bombs in a dorm, which led to four hundred students being evacuated from eight dormitory buildings.
He is being held on possession of materials with the intent to make an explosive or destructive device as well as other charges.
On Wednesday night, the police received a tip from a woman who suspected that students were in possession of explosive materials in their dorm room.
Joyce Souza, University of California, Davis Police Captain, told the Sacremento Bee that investigators found what appeared to be two, partially assembled pipe bombs in a dorm room.
According to the University of California, Davis, spokeswoman, Lisa Lapin, the four hundred plus students that were evacuated from the eight dormitories, had slept in dining halls or at the homes of family and friends and were expected to be let back into their dorms later today.
Hazardous materials crews from the UC Davis police and fire departments, along with agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and the Sacramento and Yolo County bomb squads were called to the scene.
