 Mine Layoffs Hit Hard In Challis, Salmon Idaho

Custer County and nearby communities have been left reeling after 104 workers were laid off last month from the Thompson Creek Mine.

The remaining workforce of about 300 will continue mining ore that already has been stripped until the end of 2014, he said. The company then will re-evaluate the operation. If the market doesn't rebound, the operation will close until the market improves, Loughery said.

GE Healthcare to Eliminate 2 Percent of Jobs in Wisconsin

GE Healthcare said Friday it is cutting 2 percent of its jobs in Wisconsin, where it has 6,500 employees, and 10 percent of its workforce in Vermont, where it employs about 500 people.

The Waukesha-based medical equipment manufacturer said it needs to make "tough decisions in the current economic climate" and was looking for ways to streamline its operations and lower costs.


UTC Aerospace to cut 500 jobs, 18 in Conn.

UTC Aerospace Systems plans to cut 500 jobs from its global workforce, 18 of the total in Connecticut, a company official said today.

WV- Cliffs to idle two lines at Northshore; 125 layoffs will result 
 
Cliffs Natural Resources will idle two of the four production lines at Northshore Mining, effective Jan. 5, affecting about 125 workers.

The decision is a response to lower global market demands


Momentive Performance Materials In Waterford NY To Lay Off 200

Momentive Performance Materials on Monday said it would lay off 200 workers at its Waterford plant beginning immediately. It cited continuing unfavorable global economics conditions for the move.

Orlando Health Announces Layoffs

Orlando Health will reduce its labor costs 2 to 3 percent in the coming weeks, affecting 320 to 480 positions and resulting in some layoffs, the hospital announced Nov. 19.

The labor changes will include a combination of layoffs, attrition, closing unfilled positions and consolidations.


Proposed County Highway Layoffs May Reduce Service

Last Thursday afternoon, the Rockland County Legislature Budget & Finance Committee discussed the proposed cuts in the Department of General Services. Later that same day, there were further debates on layoffs with the heads of the County Highway department and Health department. This is just the beginning of the legislature's budget review process.

Citigroup to Cut More Jobs 

Citigroup is on track to cut 300 sales and trading jobs globally this year, as part of its plan to streamline its banking operations, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing people briefed on the process.

Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital in Virginia  Cutting Jobs

Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital, which is $2 million in the red for the current fiscal year, announced changes in its top leadership — including the position of hospital administrator.

The hospital also announced nine support staff positions are being eliminated. Officials said the moves were not related to revenue problems.

Centennial may be closing more liquor stores in North Texas

Centennial Fine Wine & Spirits, a Dallas-based chain of 45 stores, is struggling with financial issues and may soon close another round of stores.

North Texas’ largest chain of liquor stores operating locations under its namesake brand and Big Daddy’s, Apple Jack and Majestic, closed seven stores in February.

Ashvilles Craggie Broewing Closing December 1

The rough economy is claiming one of Asheville’s popular craft breweries. Craggie Brewing will close on Dec. 1, owner Bill Drew has announced.



Room with a View in NM, Closing

 Deming is set to lose another business within the community, as Dela King, owner of Room with a View, has announced she is permanently closing her doors on Saturday, Dec. 22.


Energizer plant closing in St. Albans, Vt.

 Company officials at the Energizer plant in St. Albans, Vt., say the battery and flashlight plant is closing by next September.
The closing would leave about 165 people jobless.


AMPI closing Dawson, Minn. plant; 130 jobs affected

Associated Milk Producers Inc. will be closing its manufacturing facility in Dawson by the end of the year, workers there were recently informed.

The plant currently employs 130 workers in manufacturing, administrative, maintenance, laboratory and wastewater treatment positions.

Supermarkets dropping 'like so many autumn leaves' 

 The Courier-Post looks at the recent rash of supermarket closings in South Jersey, including two Superfresh stores slated to close their doors in January and this month's shuttering of an Acme in Glassboro.

Pipeline Data Files for Bankruptcy Protection in Delaware

Pipeline Data Inc. (PPDA), a provider of payment-processing services for merchants, filed for bankruptcy protection in Delaware and plans to sell its assets. 

The company listed assets (PPDA) of less than $10 million and debt of more than $50 million in Chapter 11 documents filed today in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Wilmington, Delaware. Ten affiliates also sought court protection.
