A Note To The Crazy Ron Paul Supporters

By Susan Duclos

Before Paul supporter's heads start exploding, the headline does not refer to Ron Paul supporters in general and not even to the majority of Paul supporters.

The headline refers to the crazy online portion of Paul supporters that reflect badly on their candidate.

The Note: You are not helping your candidate, you are mimicking the online madness that was perpetrated in 2008 and you are reflecting badly on Ron Paul by association.

Last night during the live blogging of the Iowa caucus results that Wake up America participated in thanks to Right Pundits allowing us to embed the live chat into our own live blogging, some Paul supporters joined in with immediate conspiracy theories stating that if Paul did not win in Iowa it was because GOP officials rigged the vote count.

The conspiracy theories started days before the actual caucuses and continued right through the vote count and into today.

It was mentioned during the live chat/live blogging discussion last night, by a Ron Paul supporter, that the media refuses to talk about Paul.

The problem there is when the media does vet Paul, his supporters then scream it is a conspiracy against him when his newsletters, his racist supporters, his conspiracy talk, etc.... is brought to light.

We didn't see Perry supporters scream CONSPIRACY when the media and/or pundits pointed to Perry's debate performances. We didn't see Gingrich supporters scream CONSPIRACY when the media highlighted Gingrich's Tiffany purchases.... and so on.

Yet any time someone dares speak to Paul's own record, his own words, his own actions, it is some huge conspiracy to the crazy portion of Paul supporters.

David Frum asks about personal responsibility:

Ron Paul’s supporters ask that their candidate not be judged by his associates. Or by the people he chose to employ. Or by the newsletters he published. Or by the book he wrote. Or by the way he earned the largest part of his living when out of office in the 1990s. Or by his purchase of the mailing list of the Holocaust-denying Liberty Lobby. Or by the radio shows he chooses to appear on. Or by his strategic decision to reach out to racist voters. Or by the conspiracy theories to which he lends credence, from government creation of AIDS to Israeli culpability for the 1993 bombing to a putative 9/11 “coverup.”

And here I thought that libertarianism was a doctrine of personal responsibility?

The sane,, legitimate Paul supporters that are willing to address the issues and discuss the politics of Paul are being tainted, again, with the crazy conspiracy theorists that seem to gravitate to Ron Paul.
