Jodi Arias Found Guilty of First Degree Murder

By Susan Duclos

On Wednesday an Arizona jury, after deliberating for five days, found Jodi Arias guilty of first-degree murder for killing Travis Alexander in June 2008.

CNN:

In the next phase of the case, prosecutors will have a chance to present additional evidence and jurors will decide whether Alexander's death was caused in a cruel manner.

According to court testimony which the jury considered before finding her guilty, Arias stabbed Alexander 27 times, shot him in the head, and slit his throat.

ABC News reports:

The case will now move directly into its sentencing phase, with Arias and the jury appearing back in court Thursday to begin arguing over whether she deserves to be condemned to death.
If sentenced to death, Arias, 32, will be the third woman on Arizona's death row.

As the verdict was read by the court's clerk, Arias winced and teared up briefly. Her attorney, Jennifer Wilmott, rubbed her arm.
