Hillary Clinton Will Step Down As Secretary Of State After Obama's Inauguration

By Susan Duclos

Hillary Clinton's spokesperson has confirmed her plans to step down as secretary of state after Obama's second inauguration, in a statement by email via The Weekly Standard:

"The Secretary has been honored to serve as President Obama's Secretary of State, and has loved every minute of leading this Department and being part of the State family," a Clintons spokesman says in an email. "But yes, you can confirm yet again that she's been clear about her intention to leave after the first term."

When asked for clarification on what date Clinton would step down, the spokesman, Philippe Reines, says, "She has said that she wants to ensure continuity, and realizes the confirmation of her successor might take a period of days beyond that."

This matches previous statements from Clinton where she asserted she no longer wished to stay in politics after she served her first term as secretary of state saying she wanted to step off the "high wire of American politics" where she said in a town hall meeting in January2012, "I have made it clear that I will certainly stay on until the president nominates someone and that transition can occur. But I think after 20 years, and it will be 20 years, of being on the high wire of American politics and all of the challenges that come with that, it would be probably a good idea to just find out how tired I am."

According to Detroit Free Press,  treasury secretary Timothy Geithner is also expected to leave.

Word yesterday was Eric Holder, who has been ensconced in scandals, fast and furious, the dropping of the black panther voter intimidation case, to name just two, is also unsure if he will stay on as Attorney General.
