In the presidential-level ads, American Crossroads poses a version of the “Are you better off now?” question, asking viewers: “President Obama says he’ll move us forward, but where’s he taken us so far?”

“America’s worst economic recovery ever. Twenty-three million of us without full-time work. Family incomes down. Forty percent living paycheck to paycheck. And Obamacare’s new tax on middle-class families. All while Obama racked up $5 trillion more in debt,” the ad continues. “Is that really forward – or backward?”

The ads are airing in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Nevada, Ohio and Virginia, strategists said.

These ads come out as the Treasury Department reported Tuesday that the national debt had topped $16 trillion.
