USA Today/Gallup Poll: More Than 2-1 Say Romney's Business Background Indicate Good Economic Decisions

By Susan Duclos

On July 18, 2012, Wake up America published a piece discussing polling that showed that 57 percent of U.S. likely voters trust companies like the one Romney ran, to create jobs more than they trust government programs like what Obama favors.

From the end of that piece:

While Obama's Bain attacks have not resonated among Independents or Conservatives and has not harmed Romney in the polls, knowing that the majority of likely voters feel companies like Bain, which Romney ran, are better job creators than government programs like Obama champions, may very cause Obama's attacks to backfire and help Mitt Romney in the long run.

In short, Obama is highlighting Romney's strength.

Yesterday we saw that after weeks of attacking Mitt Romney for his Bain Capitial tenure, Barack Obama is starting to see results opposite of those he intended,  as a large majority, 63 percent to 29 percent, believe Romney's business background, including his time at Bain, would cause him to make good decisions, not bad ones, when dealing with the nation's economy.

Romney holds a significant advantage over Obama on managing the economy, reducing the federal budget deficit and creating jobs, according to USA Today.

The findings raise questions about Obama's strategy of targeting Bain's record in outsourcing jobs and hammering Romney for refusing to commit to releasing more than two years of his tax returns. Instead, Americans seem focused on the economy, where disappointment with the fragile recovery and the 8.2% unemployment rate are costing the president.

The economy being the top issue heading into November is confirmed by every poll, from a variety of organizations that had "economy" in their surveys and there is no indication of that changing over the next few months.

Obama's own fundraisers are criticizing Obama's attacks on Romney, calling them unfair and delusional.

Obama and Democrats spent $2.6 million in June on polling yet somehow wasn't aware that highlighting Romney's strengths is akin to handing Romney free campaign advertising and paying for it with every single dollar spent on attacking Romney's money, his business background and his term at Bain.

Mitt Romney should take some of that money he didn't have to spend highlighting his business acumen and strength because Obama did so for him, and send Obama a very large gift basket as a thank you.
