Obama's Polling Woes: Voters Believe His Policies Will Increase Debt, Unemployment And Gas Prices

By Susan Duclos

The Hill conducted a poll of likely voters which found a majority, 58 percent, of likely voters believe that Barack Obama's policies will cause gas prices to continue to rise.

62 percent also believe Obama's policies will increase the national debt.

A plurality, 46 percent to 36 percent believe Obama's policies will also result in the U.S. becoming more dependent on foreign oil and by 48 percent to 38 percent voters also see Obama's policies increasing joblessness rather than putting people back to work.

Another finding from The Hill Poll:

Half of likely voters expect the Supreme Court to strike down President Obama’s signature healthcare law, and strong majorities see other major policies coming from the White House making life more difficult for themselves and the country, according to this week’s The Hill Poll.

The poll indicated that 49 percent of likely voters said they expect a court ruling that is unfavorable to the Affordable Care Act, while just 29 percent think it will be upheld and 22 percent aren’t sure.

These numbers confirm a pattern seen last week when a Washington Post-ABC News Poll found that majorities either "somewhat" or "strongly" disapprove of Obama's job performance on gas prices (65 percent), the federal budget deficit (62 percent) and the economy (59 percent).

A day later in a separate CBS News/New York Times, they found that Obama's overall approval rating had hit the lowest level ever in CBS News polling.

Knowing the rising gas prices are hurting his reelection campaign as well as his fundraising efforts, Barack Obama has been going across the country making claims about our oil supply that information from the Energy Information Administration, Department of Energy, Rand Corporation, U.S. Geological Survey, Bureau of Land Management, and the Institute for Energy Research, all prove demonstratively false.

(The facts and figures found in a previous Wake up America piece found HERE, which shows that we have 60 times the amount of resources than what Obama claims on the campaign trail, and more on our renewable resources found HERE, by guest contributor Greg Lewis.)

Recent polling as evidenced by The Hill, CBS/New York Times, and Washington Post/ABC News, all linked above, shows that Americans see Obama's policies as harmful to the country. The national debt is over $15 trillion, gas prices are soaring, and unemployment is still over 8 percent nationally with the U6, the real unemployment being closer to 15 percent and even when the "official" unemployment numbers fall a percent it is documented as being caused by people leaving the work force rather than being put to work.

Obamacare which in 2009, Barack Obama went before congress and said, "[T]he plan I’m proposing will cost around $900 billion over 10 years," (via White House website), now is estimated by the Congressional Budget Office to cost $1.76 trillion over a decade.

The Supreme Court hears arguments against the constitutionality of Obama at the end of this month with a ruling expected in June or early July, and not only does The Hill find that half of likely voters expect the Court to strike it down, but in February 2012, Gallup found that 72 percent of Americans believe the individual mandate- the government’s requirement for Americans to purchase health insurance — is unconstitutional.

Even among those that thought the healthcare law was a good thing, 54 percent believe the individual mandate is unconstitutional, with a majority of Democrats, 56 percent, saying it is unconstitutional.

[Update] ABC News/Washington Post finds that Americans oppose Obamacare "overall by 52-41 percent. And 67 percent believe the high court should either ditch the law or at least the portion that requires nearly all Americans to have coverage." [End Update]

Every issue The Hill polled, gas prices, dependence on foreign oil, joblessness, Obamacare, and the national debt, Americans are finding Obama's policies to be making things worse, not better.

Americans are not looking for a "silver bullet", they are looking for policies that will eventually turn this country in a different direction and towards a balanced budget, lower gas prices, less spending, a constitutionally solid solution to healthcare costs, and towards energy independence.

The exact opposite of what Americans are saying they see with Obama's policies.
