Actor and activist George Clooney, along with his father Nick Clooney, Martin Luther King III, NAACP President Ben Jealous, Rep Jim McGovern (D-Mass.) and Rep. Jim Moran (D-Va.) and former Rep. Tom Andrews (D-Mass.), were arrested and taken away in cuffs by the U.S. Secret Service from outside the Sudan embassy on Massachusetts Avenue.
Clooney and company were protesting outside the embassy, which is private property and were arrested after being warned multiple times to leave the premises.
It appears the protest and the arrests were orchestrated to bring attention to the humanitarian crisis in the Sudan, with Clooney stating "We need humanitarian aid to be allowed into the Sudan before it becomes the worst humanitarian crisis in the world.”
