What Liberals Don't Want You To Know About Obama's So-Called 'Contraception Mandate'

By Susan Duclos

"Our side would do well to refer to it as the abortifacient mandate."--- NRO's The Corner, February 7, 2012.

I see polls being conducted on public opinion and discussed them yesterday where Rasmussen found 59 percent of Catholics disapprove of Obama's job performance and 50 percent of voters in general oppose Obama's new HHS mandate, but even in those polls, the questions refer to the "contraception mandate" and is as misleading as the label of the mandate that is part of Obamacare, itself.

While liberals continue to hammer the terms "birth control", "contraception", "contraceptive," etc.... they deliberately neglect to mention that the mandate also forces religious organizations and/or religious groups' insurance carriers to provide abortifacients, free sterilizations, abortion-inducing drugs, and artificial contraceptives.

In fact if you look at the list of six things everyone should know about the HHS so-called "contraception" mandate," listed by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, you will see that those aspects of the mandate are listed as number three.

3.The mandate forces coverage of sterilization and abortion-inducing drugs and devices as well as contraception. Though commonly called the "contraceptive mandate," HHS's mandate also forces employers to sponsor and subsidize coverage of sterilization. And by including all drugs approved by the FDA for use as contraceptives, the HHS mandate includes drugs that can induce abortion, such as "Ella," a close cousin of the abortion pill RU-486.

Time to start calling this mandate the "Obama abortion mandate" or the "Obama abortifacient mandate" or the "Obama sterilization mandate," take your pick, because those names are no more misleading than the Obama administration calling it a contraception mandate.

[Update] 12 to 13 state attorneys are threatening to bring lawsuits against the Obama administration over the abortion mandate. Letter signed by AG's have been sent to secretaries of the Departments of Health and Human Services, Labor, and Treasury.
