Majority To Obama: No Second Term For You

By Susan Duclos

In IBD/TIPP's latest polling the majority of Americans are opposed to Barack Obama being reelected and given a second term by a 51 percent to 41 percent margin.

It is worse among Independents where 54 percent believes "someone new deserves a chance" and only 36 percent would reelected Obama.

Half of Americans give Obama poor or unacceptable marks in creating jobs and economic growth vs. 24% who say he's doing well.

Among independents, it's 51%-18%. 33% of swing voters give him an "F" vs. just 2% who give an "A".

While Republicans have not chosen a candidate to go up against Barack Obama in 2012 yet, polling to determine which candidate would poll better against him in a head to head match up has no accuracy because once a candidate is nominated, whether the preferred candidate of an individuals choice or not, the majority of the GOP supporters will unite behind that candidate, then forecasting the election in terms of Obama vs (insert eventual nominee here) will be far more predictive.

With that said, Rasmussen has found in their generic presidential ballot that a generic Republican now holds a six-point advantage over President Obama in a hypothetical 2012 match-up, by a 47 percent to 41 percent margin.

Gallup's generic presidential ballot shows the margin a bit higher with 46 percent choosing the generic Republican and 38 percent picking Obama.

According to RCP averages, 72.2 percent of the population believes the country is on the wrong track and 51.3 percent disapprove of Obama's job performance. (Those numbers fluctuate as new polling data is released)
