Opposition to Obamacare Continues To Rise In Poll After Poll

CBS/New York Times poll finds that 49 percent of Americans oppose Obamacare and just 37 percent support it.

"We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it"-- Nancy Pelosi

Well, people are starting to realize what is in it and how much it truly costs and guess what? Opposition is growing, support dwindling.

News today shows that, Rep. Gene Taylor (D-Miss.), signed onto a discharge petition drafted by Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa), making him the first Democrat to publicly support repealing Obamacare.

Jonathon Cohn over at the New Republic points out that opposition to Obamacare is subjective to which portions of Obamacare the public is questioned about and when the specific question of pre-existing conditions comes up, half of the people asked changed their minds about repeal.

Still, if you dig deeper into the same poll, you'll find that public sentiment on health care reform is more complicated than those figures suggest. While 40 percent of respondents said they supported repealing the Affordable Care Act, more than half changed their minds (leaving just 19 percent in favor of repeal) when pollsters mentioned that it'd mean letting insurance companies exclude people with pre-existing conditions.

That particular argument is intellectually dishonest and I will tell you why.

No one claimed that there are not bits and pieces over the mammoth bill that are good, but the bill stands as a whole, including the mandate requiring every person to buy insurance or face fines, a mandate to which 20 separate states are suing over on the grounds of constitutionality, including the controversial 1099 proposition to which Democratic lawmakers claim "blindsided" them because they didn't understand the proposition enough before voting for it to know how harmful it would be to small businesses, etc... so if you divide the questions up, you must ask about each and every portion of the bill and not just take one, that is popular and determine the support for the bill as a whole on the grounds of that one item.

Fact is when taken as a whole, each and every poll produced shows support dwindling and opposition continuing to rise as the numbers supporting repeal rise with them.

RCP has opposition to Obamacare at 52.3 percent with just 38.7 percent favoring it.

That average comes from:

USA Today/Gallup with 56 percent opposing and 39 percent favoring.

Rasmussen with 58 percent opposing and 36 percent favoring.

CNN/Opinion Research with 56 percent opposing and 40 percent favoring.

PPP (Democratic polling) with 48 percent opposing and 46 percent favoring.

CBS News with 49 percent opposing and 36 percent favoring.

Pew/National Journal with 47 percent opposing and 35 percent favoring.

Contrary to Democratic politician's promises when they jammed Obamacare through the Senate and Congress, claiming that when the public found out all that was in the bill they would start to support it, opposition is rising as the public becomes aware of what Washington Democrats actually passed and Obama signed into law.
