NRSC Donates Maximum To O'Donnell As Her Fundraising Jumps Into High Gear

Tea Party/ Sarah Palin backed Christime O'Donnell is off and running to a good start after her major upset in Delaware in defeating the establishment candidate Mike Castle, with the NRSC donating the maximum amount, $42,000, in support to her and her own fundraising goals being raised three times after having been met and exceeded.

“I reached out to Christine this morning, and as I have conveyed to all of our nominees, I offered her my personal congratulations and let her know that she has our support. This support includes a check for $42,000 -– the maximum allowable donation that we have provided to all of our nominees -– which the NRSC will send to her campaign today,” said National Republican Senatorial Committee chairman John Cornyn (Tex.) in a statement.

Her online fundraising also took off after her campaign had launched a $50,000 online drive following her victory. By mid-afternoon Wednesday that goal had been increased three times, to $500,000, as the campaign announced it had met and passed the earlier online fundraising goals.

Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney also reached out to O’Donnell, pledging to donate the maximum of $5,000 to her through his political action committee, Free and Strong America PAC, and strongly endorsing her candidacy.

“Now is the time for Republicans to rally behind their nominee, Christine O’Donnell. She ran an impressive campaign. I believe it is important we support her so we can win back the U.S. Senate this fall,” said Romney in a statement.

Initial polling has O'Donnell behind the Democratic candidate for the Delaware Senate seat but considering she just won the GOP primary yesterday, those tallies are preliminary at best.
