House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, California Democrat, called for an investigation of those who are protesting the building of the Ground Zero Mosque on Tuesday. She told San Francisco's KCBS radio:
"There is no question there is a concerted effort to make this a political issue by some. And I join those who have called for looking into how is this opposition to the mosque being funded," she said. "How is this being ginned up that here we are talking about Treasure Island, something we've been working on for decades, something of great interest to our community as we go forward to an election about the future of our country and two of the first three questions are about a zoning issue in New York City." Calls to investigate the funding for those proposing the $100 million "Cordoba House" have fallen on deaf ears, though, as New York's Mayor Mike Bloomberg has described such an investigation as "un-American."
Yesterday I linked to poll after poll showing the majority of Americans being opposed to the site of the proposed mosque being so close to the tragic Ground Zero site where thousands of lives were lost in the 9/11 terrorist attack.
Today Pelosi wants an investigation into how that opposition began.
While opponents of the proposed mosque admit the builders have the legal right to build it on the land they have chosen, opponents also believe having a mosque so close to the Ground Zero site is disrespectful to the victims of the terrorist attack, as well as providing a symbol to Islamic jihadists as a whole.
Many claim the proposed mosque is not "that close" to the 9/11 site, but Rick Lazio provides a campaign video showing how close it really is, using images from the 9/11 attack.
The video accomplishes one thing - it shows how close the mosque actually is to the site, despite developer Sharif El-Gamal's insistence to NY1 that it is "nowhere near" the World Trade Center (although Lazio's video is shot less than a block from the WTC, not two blocks and around a corner away, where the Islamic center and mosque would be).
Lazio's video also demands an investigation into the funding of the mosque:
On July 7th, Rick Lazio stood up for the people of New York and demanded Andrew Cuomo launch an investigation into the funding of the Ground Zero Mosque.
Check out our new video to see what everyday New Yorkers think about the plan tobuild the mosque and what they think of Andrew Cuomo's refusal to investigate the sources of its funding.

There are also discussions in the works about moving the location, as per CBS New York.
Last but not least on the Ground Zero mosque headlines for today comes from Big Peace, titled "Ground Zero Mosque’s Hidden Websites: Follow the Shariah."
